Thanks for your reply! Last night I decided to unplug the ac adapters (Area 51 has two of them) and let the battery die. I can’t say for sure what exactly happened but an hour or two later in desperation I tried holding the power button down for two minutes straight… I had done this before several times… still no effect… but then about one minute after I had stopped holding the power button down it shut down on its own. Not sure what did it… maybe finally ran out of battery? I plugged it back in and booted again and it took me to a screen with the Alienware logo at the top saying 'battery has been disable' (yes it actually did say 'disable' instead of 'disabled') and then something about the battery being overheated. From this portal I was able to run a system scan and it found no problems. I restarted again this time tapping F2 and confirmed that battery and ac adapter were functioning properly… then rebooted and it came up with a screen saying it was finishing windows update… after that it booted normally and seems fully functional. Not sure exactly what fixed it but my best guess is battery finally died… I hope this helps someone who might finds themselves in the same situation. JD

Hi @Johnny Dixon , I got you so its no problem. I had the same issue when my dads AREA 51M was doing a BIOS Update and he closed the lid during it and that must've corrupted something because it wasn't turning off. I spent 2 hours diagnosing and fixing it to come out with the solution: unscrew all the screws attaching the laptops bottom panel where the fan is and use a suction cup to pull it out gently. Then even though the laptop IS on still unplug the battery connector from the motherboard. DONT REMOVE THE BATTERY, just unplug it. Then the laptop should shut off and then you need to hold the power button for 30 seconds. Then hold CTRL+ ESC while your plugging the battery back in and the laptop should boot!

I had a notification that a Windows Update was needed and so I scheduled it to install late last night(around 1am) and when I woke up this morning my monitor(which is a Vizio tv) is stuck on the "Please wait while we install a system update" screen. It has been this way since I woke up at 7am and possibly even longer considering when the update took place.

Windows said it was a Firmware update and usually they never do this or take that long. Most times updates are done by the time I wake up.

I did sort of restart my PC and it booted back up to an update screen that said it was 30% complete, did a restarting screen and now it's back to the please wait screen.

I'm genuinely afraid to touch it at this point...

UPDATE: Just jumping in to say that my updates are not automatic, I do have to approve them. I just saw this one and didn't think anything of it. Also, I dunno if it matters but I can definitely hear the fan on my PC running(it usually does this if it's loading something) so I dunno if that is an indicator of it doing anything or not.

UPDATE.2: I turned it off and back on again and got it to boot up. It went to the update progress screen went from 34% up to 100% and then windows started up as if nothing had happened. Everything seems to be going okay so far, but if anything changes I will update again.

I believe it tried to install alienware firmware and failed. If you can boot it up go to alienware website and download latest bios. Should clear it up. Should never update bios through windows update. Idk why it was there.

Thanks for your prompt response. Resetting RTC by hard reset (power button for 30 seconds/ discharge flea) only temporarily takes away the loading freeze and gets to the desktop until i restart the system again. At every restart the issue still persists. Support Assist on board diagnostics (ePSA) all tests PASS successfully (Both quick test and advanced test) result code (2000000) Validation code.Went through all the dell epsa checks all are fine. My observation is i am not sure Not sure how bios got updated initally to 1.5 (maybe windows updates pushed it directly) but its an issue with Gpu's and bios So far what i did has been as follows 1) (Thought it was App issue) Checked Windows Reliability monitor and Windows event viewer to review all the critical issues that had been happening at every restart/ power on. Found AWCC and Killer Wifi causing problems so completely removed them and their registry entries > Issue persists 2)(Thought its a amd chipset driver issue) Removed amd chipset drivers latest (dell website manual install) by amd chipset driver uninstall utility. Then reflashed latest bios from bios recovery tool and installed old amd chipset drivers from dell. > Issue persists 3) Removed amd gpu drivers and nvidia drivers + nvidia physx (dell website manual install) by ddu uninstaller to microsoft adapter drivers and issue is gone now. Which tells me Its one of gpu drivers or bios conflicting. So, i ll downgrade bios to earliest version and try both old and new drivers combinations and maybe systematically upgrade. Any observations or suggestions are welcomed

If system working, there is no requirement to update the BIOS unless it has a feature you want. Never apply BIOS update over the internet because PC might get bricked. Follow the official Dell/Alienware BIOS update process Update the BIOS on your Alienware PC - YouTube. Please press the power-on button and allow the Alienware Area-51m R2 to automatically shut down. This happened to me last year and I don’t know how to fix it. I sent it to a dell workshop far from where I live and they said there was nothing wrong with it. Please do comment down below quick cause this is also my work pc for college.

This looks like a boot issue, i would first boot from a windows installer usb, you should be able to run a repair from that. if that still does not work, you may be able to install over top of your existing installation to get things going again. if this doesnt work, then your SSD might be borked. the good news is you can pick up a new one on the cheap, pop the bottom panel off and it should just be one screw securing it right above the battery. you may need to reinstall dell drivers if you do a reinstall, you can get them from their support page., dont forget your gpu drivers from AMD/NVIDIA site. i hope this helps.

Not sure what Alienware you have, but my 17r3 had an issue like this and I removed the battery and held the power button down for a couple min and then put it back in and powered on without issue.
