Apple India have recently undergone a change of leadership and I am currently in a state of “no more Apple products” until their roadmap for the country is a little clear-cut in the coming year. However, I am not optimistic that things will work out for the better as far as customers are concerned because from early January, other than a couple (I think two, if I’m not mistaken) of third party resellers, Apple will forbid online sales of their products on places like Amazon. These authorised resellers would have near total monopoly and would most likely sell products at or very close to their Maximum Retail Prices. Also, their policy of offering huge discounts especially during festive seasons is allegedly going to be discontinued. Even with discounts Apple products usually cost much more than say in the States or even Europe. To exacerbate things, the prices of all recent Apple products have increased tremendously so my only guess is they’re trying to reposition themselves as a ‘luxury’ brand rather than a ‘premium’ one. However, this may bite them in the long term as — (a) luxury electronics brands don’t usually do well (think Vertu); and (b) shrinking marketshare means dwindling income from services and services will most definitely account for a greater share of profits. As for OP’s predicament, there’s nothing much that can be done. Apple is indifferent at best and unless they have a change of heart (or the market forces Apple to correct their pricing) we have little recourse but to hope for the best. More on reddit.com
