r/malefashionadvice on Reddit: ELI5: Differences between dress pants, trousers, slacks and chinos?
November 27, 2017 - The term "slacks" is maybe slightly more precise than "trousers" in that I believe it's specifically referring to the slack fabric that you get in pleated pants, which tend to be dress pants or suit pants. ... In addition to what others have said, jeans generally are a five pocket pant. They also have outer back pockets and riveted buttons. Chinos usually have side cut pockets, like a suit pant, and they have sewn buttons, and sometimes an inner waist button.

have any of you ditched slacks/dress pants at work for chinos? how was it?
I wear 90% chinos to work. I own an insurance agency in a beach community. On the rare occasions where dress slacks would really be required, I end up just wearing a suit because it means it's a big thing anyway. I like them, they're comfy, can be dressed up a bit with a blazer/tie and can be more casual with a polo. More on reddit.com

August 1, 2023 - Nowadays, however, chinos made from cotton-synthetic blends can commonly be found. In much the same way, slacks made from wool-synthetic blends can also be commonly found. The quality of the finish and the feel of synthetic fibers is more obvious to some men than others. Synthetic blends are cheaper, and so your budget may play a role here.
