Barge cement is the stuff that's been around forever and is the most famous for shoe repairs. But I've used Weldwood Original Contact Cement because it's much easier to find and cheaper, and it's worked fine for shoe repairs, and when I read reviews, others think it works well too. I think the main thing, whatever brand you get, is not to get the newer non-toxic contact cements, get the original formulas with toluene in them. The original contact cements are said to work much better than their non-toxic counterparts. More on reddit.com

Barge infinity is the go to for just about everyone. You can cop via amazon but I have to warn you- it's not cheap. Also- watch a youtube tutorial prior to attempting this. It's imperative you let this stuff partially cure for about 8min prior to sticking both sides together. Also, clamps help a lot to keep everything locked down while the glue goes to work. Hello fine cobblers! I’m looking to order some cement to repair several pairs of my husbands shoes (primarily Keens) that always manage to come apart at the soles. Plus I have 2 ancient pairs of Chaco sandals that have cracks in the polyurethane. ...yes I know polyurethane can’t be repaired/rebuilt, and that these shoes are probably toast, but it’s worth it to me to try.
I remember reading somewhere on this sub that the Barges in the yellow tin was the ONLY good option. All the other options were garbage. I can only find this yellow Barges in Quart containers, and I need... idk a really small amount. I’m concerned that like 90% of the Quart size tin would dry out, since I only need a bit. Is it really worth the $29 on Amazon to get a Quart size tin of Barges? Or can I get a smaller tube in the same formula?

Most all industrial 2 part cement are going to be strong enough to hold a sole on. At my office we use Jetset, masters, barges, and 3m polyadhesive. They will all work and operate well in most all conditions, the most important thing is that you apply it in the right way. I'm guessing that the different types of barges available to you are just different mix ratio of the same product. So some will have less thinner and be thicker, thin is best. 2 part cements should be thinned out to where it's almost the consistentcy of water. The thicker the glue, the longer you have to wait for it to dry for it to stick. I do three very thin layers of glue, letting it dry completely between applications. After the final layer is air dried hit both painted sides you plan to glue together with a heat gun or hair dryer. The goal is to make sure all the thinner is gassed off before the adhesive is stuck together.
