191017 - “Polaris Entertainment reportedly loses lawsuit against global IT business DONUTS, ordered to pay back 360 million won DONUTS lent Polaris 400m won to help grow LOONA. 40m was deducted and 360m wasn't returned“

This lawsuit is for failure to repay their part of the deposit of ~400M KRW.

It isn't the big one; of the often-quoted 9.9B KRW pre-debut project cost, DONUTS put in 3.5B of that in exchange for LOONA promoting the mylive app (we only saw Yeojin do 4 mukbangs on MYLIVE); DONUTS is filing a separate lawsuit for that.

Edit: Soompi's translation: https://www.soompi.com/article/1359525wpp/polaris-entertainment-ordered-by-courts-to-pay-compensation-in-case-related-to-loona

Here is my general translation of this and I had fig check from subbits. and IANAL:

In the Seoul Central District Court, Polaris Ent. lost a lawsuit filed by IT Company DONUTS for failure to repay a lease deposit. Polaris CEO Lee Jeong Myung ordered to pay 360M KRW (~300,000 USD) and delayed damages.

In 2017 Polaris partnered with DONUTS to start the LOONA project. Polaris took a 400M KRW as a deposit for a space lease (in a location/branding contract). However they haven't returned their part, or 360M KRW.

(Context: DONUTS operates the broadcasting app MYLIVE. Of the often-quoted 9.9B KRW pre-debut project, DONUTS appears to be behind 3.5B of that)

DONUTS said they invested 3.5B KRW (~3M USD) under the condition that LOONA would appear on MYLIVE broadcasts. But not only did the company fail to return the aforementioned deposit, but the LOONA broadcast appearance condition wasn't faithfully fulfilled, as only one member ever broadcasted on the app (Context: We got 4 Yeojin mukbangs total). Another case for a return on that investment is in the works, in addition to separate criminal charges.

Polaris said that they haven't gotten the deposit back themselves yet, and will return it as soon as they do. They said that the lawsuit is ongoing and that the trial proceedings will speak for themselves.

Trump sues the BBC for $10 billion over speech edit | Reuters
1 week ago - A spokesman for Trump's legal team said in a statement the BBC "has a long pattern of deceiving its audience in coverage of President Trump, all in service of its own leftist political agenda". The lawsuit poses one of the biggest threats to the British Broadcasting Corporation in its 103-year history, and has been seized on by critics and rivals who object to its perceived liberal stance and its funding through the licence.

How strong is Trump's defamation case against the BBC? | Reuters
1 week ago - Threshold questions would be whether the BBC has actively sought to establish a presence in Florida and whether people in the state watched the documentary and felt deceived by it, legal experts said. Trump's lawsuit says the BBC has an office in Coral Gables, Florida, maintains webpages devoted to Florida news and sent film crews to Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate to gather footage for the documentary.

Trump vs the BBC: What hurdles might the president's legal argument face?
November 12, 2025 - In a letter to the BBC, Trump's legal team demanded three things - to issue a "full and fair retraction" of the programme, an apology and that the BBC "appropriately compensate President Trump for the harm caused". But experts on US media and defamation law say the president faces significant obstacles to winning such enormous damages from a lawsuit against the BBC, partly due to strong US press freedom laws.
