What a good 40-inch TV for cheap?

Here's a pro-tip:
Don't shop for a "smart" TV (ie, for the apps), just shop for a TV. Concentrate on the important features: the display, the colors, the definition, getting sound, etc.

You can always plug a dedicated device into it to deliver what you want (Roku, Amazon Fire Stick, Xbox, Playstation, soundbar, surround sound, etc). That's why they give you multiple ports, use 'em!

Plus, the "smart" tech that TV manufacturers build into it is mostly an afterthought, and the apps are usually the first thing to go obsolete over time (the company can choose to stop supporting the service on your TV).

40 inch smart tv: 4K or FHD?

TCL has beter QC and is therefore imo the better choice, GoogleTV isn’t the fastest on this model but it will last a few years minimal and by then you can get the latest GoogleTV dongle or something else.

Best 40" TV for under $250?
I agree with the other commenter. Evolving technology has shifted the general market towards 50"+ panels, so manufacturers aren't focusing on making quality 40-49" sets. That being said, $250 won't get you much in terms of great quality, regardless of size. You can probably find a decent set that fits your budget and needs but the "real" quality starts at $500-600 range. My suggestion is save to buy a quality set, but if you can't, I recommend doing what research you're able to and purchase a set that fits your needs. My recommendations: Motion Handling: My first priority when it comes to 4K LEDs is motion handling. On Black Friday I purchased a Samsung 55" NU6000 series for $350ish and the picture quality, no matter what format, looked like complete dog shit. I ended up returning it for a much more expensive Sony X950G ($800-$1200) HDR capabilities: To my knowledge, lower end sets are equipped with "gimmicky" HDR settings, so I'm not sure about the legitimacy of it. Regardless, most of the HDR content made for games and movies are in Dolby Vision, so make sure it's able to handle that. I think LG and Sony are the only sets that can handle both Dolby Vision and HDR10 (Samsung can only do HDR10). Picture customization capabilities: As a TV enthusiast, I prefer sets where I can adjust the picture settings to the way I prefer. The NU6000 I mentioned had very little settings to adjust. This isn't important to most, but it is if you'd like to tailor the set to the viewing room as best as possible. User Interface: This isn't important to me because I spend more time watching my TV than navigating it, but if you're easily frustrated with laggy OS, then this may be an important factor in your decision. You should try out sets in person to see if it fits you. Brands are Important: Unfortunately, getting a TV that isn't Sony, Samsung, or LG will probably be lower tier. The TCL Series 6 is a better bang for your buck (I don't know if they make 40" screens though), and Vizio is pretty decent as well. I do advise against buying shitty brands like HiSense, Toshibas, etc. I hope this helps your decision. More on reddit.com

Which brands make the best 43-inch TVs?

Although the selection is smaller than it used to be, all major TV brands still sell display models in the 40- to 43-inch class. If you're looking for a high-end TV in that range, we generally recommend focusing on options from Samsung, LG, and Sony. Those companies make 42-inch OLED TV models that offer excellent image quality, though they are pricey for their size.

For a budget-friendly 43-inch TV, we recommend considering brands like TCL, Roku, Hisense, and Onn, which offer affordable entry-level models in this size.

The Best 43-Inch, 42-Inch, and 40-Inch TVs of 2025
Is a 43-inch TV a good size?

A 43-inch TV is a good choice for people who want a compact display for an area with space limitations. They're great for bedrooms, dorms, small living rooms, and apartments.

Alternatively, some models also work well as computer monitors. Though small for a TV, 43 inches is large for a monitor, so certain TVs this size are a good fit for people who want a big screen on their desk.

However, 43 inches is not the best choice if you want to place a TV on a wall or media console in a medium- or large-sized room, as this size is too small to offer an immersive viewing experience from a typical viewing distance. The Best 43-Inch, 42-Inch, and 40-Inch TVs of 2025
How much should you spend on a 43-inch TV?

The best 43-inch TVs vary in price, with entry-level HD models starting at around $120 and entry-level 4K models costing around $150 to $250. Although some brands also sell 43-inch 4K TVs priced in the $300 to $600 range, we typically do not recommend those options, as they rarely offer notable improvements over cheaper sets.

Instead, you need to pay at least $900 to find a 43-inch TV with substantial performance benefits over entry-level models. In the $900 to $1,200 range, you can find a few 42-inch OLED TVs that deliver excellent image quality, as well as a couple of high-end 43-inch QLEDs that offer high-brightness panels with local dimming.

Best 7 TVs I've Tested in December 2025 - CNET
1 week ago - Smart TV: Among entry-level TVs the most important feature is what kind of smart TV system the TV uses, and while some are proprietary to each brand (Samsung and LG) some models do offer Roku and Google TV. For more TV buying advice check out How to Buy a TV. One important aspect of image quality I test is overall brightness using the CS-2000 spectroradiometer. Here's how brightness compares in nits across select TVs listed above. Prices vary widely by size and features, from less than $100 for basic 24-inch TVs to more than $2,000 for big OLED models.
