I'm not all that knowledgeable about printers, so forgive my foolishness in advance. I live in Australia, Melbourne. I am looking to purchase a new printer based on a few factors. These include:
-Black and white printing (color not necessary).
-Reliable brand.
-Should have warranty.
-The cost of cartridge shouldn't be extremely pricey (from what I'm aware, some printers sell for cheap, but REALLY jack up the cartridge prices), assuming these are still being used.
-Having a scanner would be a plus, though this is a fairly flexible part of things, and a drastically cheaper option without a scanner may be a better choice.
-Should work with both mac and windows.
I don't need something with tons of incredible features, or extremely fast printing (slow is totally fine), or whatever. I primarily need something that will work when I need it to, won't jam frequently, won't constantly ask to have something replaced when I've already replaced it, and something where it won't dry out because I haven't used it in a while. Budget items are fine and all, but I certainly don't want to buy something that'll start crapping out on me and continually have issues after a few months. I guess I'm looking for the AK-47 of printers, if that makes sense.
I suppose that having a direct USB connect would be a minor bonus to avoid potential connection issues, but that's a very minor point.
If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate hearing them.

Bought a Brother BW laser printer,copier. Now 5 yrs old. One toner cartridge replaced. It’s been a beast. I know it’s not BFL. But it’s been very easy to use. Previously I had an epsom color inkjet. Though it was good it lasted about 5 yrs of medium use. The ink cartridges were quite expensive. As much as our current toner carriages. And we blew through them. I’d say the brother has done 2-3 times as much printing.
Best at home laser printer. B&W only and need scanning/copying.
I'd recommend looking into Brother's laser printers in that price range. They tend to be cheaper to run in the long run compared to inkjets. Plus, they're usually faster. More on reddit.com

The Brother HL L2405W is easily one of the best and most reliable monochrome laser printers out there. Built like a tank, it will last for years. It has wifi but no Ethernet, though there is an Ethernet version that costs a little more. I also suggest looking at this comprehensive datasheet of printers I came across recently. Black and white printer for occasional home use
At the low end for monochrome printers, I have been happy with Brother. Such as:

You definitely want laser (not inkjet) because the toner in a laser won't dry up like inkjet. You can go months without printing and a laser will fire right up in my experience.

Pretty much title. From my vast amount of research and personal experience, I am pretty much looking for a Brother printer under $200. Before I pull the trigger, I want to here what the people have to say. Mobile printing would also be a nice to have.

Well the most popular is the Brother HL-L2405W. Fairly affordable and great quality prints. It does not come with an ethernet. If you want the Ethernet variant then Brother HL-L2460DW. Besides that, you can go through this comprehensive database of all the printers. It lists almost all the models and their specs. You can filter through to find only monochrome printers.
