or something else?
Hi there, my fiancé and I are looking to upgrade our bedding from a Target Duvet to something a little more luxurious and adult-worthy. Don’t really have a price point since this would be a wedding registry item.
We have a kind sized bed and run warm when we sleep, so I’m unsure if we need a comforter, quilt, or duvet. Putting the duvet on over the insert has been the bane of my existence, but maybe because we have a cruddy target one.
Our aesthetic is plain/white, and I’m particularly interested in Buffy or Parachute but not sure if they are gimmicks. Would love to hear any suggestions!
I've had Brooklinen linens and a Buffy duvet insert for the last 4 years. The sheets are very soft and comfortable but the fitted sheets have gotten small tears. I like the Buffy, I think it sleeps well year-round.
We recently upgraded to a King and got the whole bed bundle from Parachute. The duvet is a little fluffier than the Buffy and the pillows are amazing. The sheets feel like a step up from Brooklinen but they haven't seen as much wear so it's tough to say.
Re: putting a duvet until the insert, have you tried the magic burrito method? It's a game changer!
Seeing lots of recs for Brooklinen, but I think they are hugely overrated. The sheets are thin as tissue paper (I can see the branding on my mattress and pillow straight through them). You can get better sheets from Costco or Bed Bath & Beyond for a fraction of the price.
We purchased a couple different comforters from Macy’s, but had to return both because the quality of poor.
I was hoping to try Amazon, but I don’t trust online reviews anymore and have no frame of reference for quality bedding brands.
I’m looking to spend no more than $100 on a comforter (and no more than $200 on a set if it comes in a set).
I've been looking on reddit and other places online, and have realized its hard to find exactly what I'm looking for. I want a comforter that is not a duvet insert that I don't need to buy a duvet cover for. Other than that, my main requirements are that it is not warm (I'm a hot sleeper), and is machine washable.
I've been reading recommendations about bamboo, silk, or a lower percentage down comforter but I don't care too much about material as long as its soft and sleeps cool.
Final thing I realized I should include is that my budget is ~$200. Does anyone have recommendations or places I should be looking?
Any recommendations? I want a cooling blanket because I live in California and i am a hot sleeper. Don’t care about the price. Also. Heard mixed reviews about cozy earth. They good or no ? Don’t care about price.
Hiya! Wondering if anyone can recommend a good comforter for my partner and I? We originally loved the feel of the MUJI comforter but they haven’t restocked their comforters in weeks and we can find anywhere to buy one. We are looking for something very soft that also works well for my partner who is a very hot sleeper! Any recommendations will be very appreciated! :))
I hate my duvet/cover scenario. I want a really wonderful, 1-piece comforter. Machine washable, please. Under $300 for a King would be ideal.
I can run hot but I also love a little weight on me. I’ve been eyeing Quince comforters but will take any recs. Thank you!
EDIT: To clarify — one piece means I don’t want a duvet + insert. Just a comforter… or maybe a quilt since some of those ideas are sounding good.
I've been on a comforter hunt. I've done lots of research through lots of reddit posts and best ofs and I haven't gotten far.
I'm a hot sleeper. My place stays ~70F at night while I sleep (I live in a condo building, even if it's 65F outside, heat from other units rise and keep things warm). I recently got linen sheets (from MagicLinen) that have been awesome. They're not quite as soft and breathable as the modal sheets I had, but they're also not pilling after 2 washes and feel like they'll last more than a year. I need more than just a top sheet or else I get too cold. In the interim, I have this comforter:
A cheap <$30 Target comforter
This has, surprisingly, been cool enough for me. Some nights it might even be 1 degree too cool, which is fine. The problem with it is the microfiber shell is scratchy, it doesn't feel great. So, I've been hunting for another cool yet kinda luxurious comforter.
Through lots of reading, it sounded like wool was the "best" option for a cool comforter - more thermo-regulating than down and shouldn't get hot like polyfill (except my polyfill is so cheap I guess there's not enough in it to make it hot?). So, I got a 250gsm wool duvet insert. Since wool is not easily washable and has no color options, a duvet cover was a must. I got a nice percale cotton cover that feels so nice to the touch. Put it all together, threw it on top of the linen sheets, crawled into bed... I'm baking. I tried to sleep in it, thinking the wool would do its thing, but nope. I wake up in the middle of the night dying of thirst because I was overheating.
No biggie, I probably just went too heavy on the wool. The lightest I can find is 150 gsm, so I pull the trigger. Put it in the cover and... still too hot. I could tell it was definitely cooler, but I also quickly knew it was going to result in the same problem.
So... what am I doing wrong? Is there a trick to the wool I'm missing? I think part of the problem is between the shell of the insert and the duvet cover itself, that's 4 layers of cotton that don't exactly help with the whole "breathable" bit, so that whole plan seems pretty scuffed. Meanwhile, this cheap polyfill one is still the coolest thing I've come across - I just wish I could find the same thing with a nicer shell. Is anybody aware of such a cool lightweight polyfill with a nice shell? Or something besides polyfill that comes in different colors and doesn't need a cover?
I also haven't gone the route of blankets yet because I like the airy fluffiness of a comforter. If it gets colder in the winter, I'll likely add a blanket as an extra layer anyways, but I'd still like a comforter on top.
So I just bought a new bed and I’m finally able to make my floofy dream cloud come true.
However, all the comforter/quilt/duvet inserts I’ve looked at look like sad, pathetic, gangly slices of depression and I would really love to be able to jump onto cotton candy and fucking sunshine!!
Does anyone know how I can achieve this? I don’t care about it being warm or what it’s made of I would just like it to be crazy fluffy and soft.
Thanks!
Ideally, I’d like a cotton comforter (not duvets or quilts). And sleep is important to me and we spend a good amount of time sleeping. I don’t really care what the comforter looks like, but I want it to be breathable and lightweight. Comforters can be pricey , but even in checking sales (like Amazon prime going on right now) they’re still very expensive. Please not suggestions for duvets/quilts as i don’t sleep as well in them.
I'm looking for something more cooling, as I get so warm at night. My room is the warmest in the house and I've tested it several degrees Fahrenheit warmer than the living room. I have the vent blowing but it doesn't work well.
Well I have a cotton comforter but it's a bit thick and I'm thinking to swap it out. Every brand I look into seems to have pros and then there is one or several comments with major cons. Here is what I've looked into so far.
Peru Pima: This one flew under the radar and I wasn't able to find much online but the people who had them did love them. I found a few comments saying they lost their softness after a wash and began to pill.
Rest Evercool: This one has tons of controversy, not being cooling, customer service, pilling, etc. At a glance it looks perfect but I'm not inclined to buy based on price and complaints.
Aeptom Eucalyptus Lyocell Comforter: An option I found after some digging but doesn't have much to back it up.
Sijo Clima TempTune Comforter: This comforter seems to fit the bill but there are complaints of returning and customer service being a nightmare.
And then there's a lot of opinions and reviews saying bamboo, but bamboo is really rayon and bad for you, cotton is the way to go, but then that rabbit hole goes deep too :P
Having to weed out who actually enjoys their comforter, and who is a paid ad, damn! What a world we live in. I feel bad for those who are less internet-savvy.
Can anyone recommend a cooling comforter or blanket that is high quality and not super thick? (if it's thick but cooling that's fine [I'm looking for something to keep me cool]).
TLDR: I can't find a good cooling comforter. Can anyone recommend or do you have any reviews based on the brands I mentioned?
Hi all!
I’m a very very hot sleeper, under a nice cool sheet and a comforter I am waking up in a furnace of human heat even with it 57° in my bedroom.
I’ve been doing some research and it looks Brooklinen and Casper have some great options. Also it seems avoiding synthetic materials is highly recommended to keep from holding heat.
Casper has one that is wool-lined to wick moisture away with a light down fill. https://casper.com/bedding/duvets/humidity-fighting-duvet/buy/
And Brooklinen is a bit cheaper (and bonus has a longer return policy) https://www.brooklinen.com/products/down-comforter
I do prefer a little more weight than just a sheet…
Have you had any luck with comforters/duvets/etc for such a hot sleeper? I am in the south, spring has barely popped up, but it will get hot and it will get very humid and I’m tired (no pun intended) of not getting sleep because I’m a human lava.
Looking to upgrade our bedding. We always buy some pretty cheap comforters or duvets and duvet covers and they always seem to get worn out so quickly and become less comfortable.
Looking for the best sheets, best comforter OR duvet + duvet cover.. even pillows thrown in there if someone knows of some really great ones. I get that this kinda stuff can’t really be BIFL and do need to be replaced eventually but I’m looking for something that will last! I’m in Canada by the way so looking for stuff that I can find here or ships here.
Thanks in advance!
Buy linen, it's the closest to BIFL bed sheets and duvet covers get. They can be pricey but linen lasts for a long time and gets nicer each and every wash.
Linoto is a great brand made in upstate NY (though their customer service has been hard to get in touch with), my linoto sheets are holding up really well. Magic linen is another awesome brand made in Eastern Europe.
As for a duvet insert, I have a wool comforter I love, but haven't had it long enough to say it's BIFL or not
I got a duvet and cover from ikea at least 10 years ago and both are still going strong. The cover even has that feeling the old sheets we had in the house felt like. Not thinned out or anything, but a weird nice "broken in" kind of thing I guess.
So I’ve been searching for a nice down comforter for the past month and I can’t seem to figure out how to choose. Some brands I’ve found are feathered friends, plumeria bay, company store, and pacific coast feather.
The issue in finding is none of these brands clearly state whether or not they use Chinese construction and just fill the comforters themselves, they also seem to lack detail as to the fill type and amount.
Anyone here have input as to how to pick a good brand for a comforter?
I've been on the search for a quality comforter for about a year now. I've mostly had cheap Walmart, Amazon and occasional Macy's comforter sets my whole life and I'm finally ready for a nicer, quality piece. I've done some research but all the companies I look at seem to be a mixed bag. I'm not looking to spend more than $200 if possible and I'm looking for something on the lighter, cooler side for fabrics.
I recently purchased from The Company Store and was very upset when the comforter tore adjusting it in the middle of the night less than 30 days after purchasing it, so I'm hesitant in buying from them again.
So to make a long story short, what's a quality company to purchase from that will last and still feel luxurious?
My partner and I run very hot at night and can’t seem to find the right comforter. We live in a pretty warm area year round and don’t have A/C or a heater. Our biggest problem is we want something light and fluffy thats soft on your skin, and gives you that ‘hotel cloud comforter’ type feeling, but can also keep us cool in the summers and warmer in the winters. It seems like a lot of the temperature regulating ones are thinner and not always as cozy as you want them to be? I’ve heard of trying a wool one as those seem to be the best for temp, but I’m worried we would get too hot especially in the summers. Appreciate any and all suggestions!!
