They also have slightly higher clearance than their Corolla counterpart, listed at 7”. Mpg averages around 30 I believe. I drive my Vibe as a delivery driver and blast around town all day. I drove it multiple times over a thousand miles in a day. Seats were comfortable, sat radio, and Beats sound system rocked. I sold it and bought an i3. Never had a problem with the Fiat. I loved my XC90 but traded it due to the cost of fuel. I drive 40 miles a day roundtrip to work. I would easily go through a tank of gas in four days. Best mileage I ever got was about 22 highway. The XC90 is a heavy SUV and shaped like a block. Not a lot of aerodynamics.

I live in the rural midwest and would like something I don't have to fill up as often since I drive to a lot of different places. I'm looking for a reliable car with more than 23mpg. I would prefer cars that have decent clearance for potholes and snow chunks. Anything else doesn't really matter as long as it's under 5k.

Toyota Prius, find one with a dead battery for really cheap and put in a new battery by yourself. It's around $1500-$2000 if you do it yourself and use refurbished cells. It isn't a hard job either, it just requires taking out the back seats, unplugging the battery connector, unscrewing/pulling the battery out (the hardest part of the job), remove old cells, put in new cells in the order specified by the seller, do the reverse.

Also, don't forget about the Chevy Prizm (rebadged Corolla) Nissan's cars are good, too. Check out the Altima. I've always liked the 2001-2004 Volvo V40.
