r/Westerns on Reddit: Loving Kirk Douglas and Robert Mitchum Westerns
February 13, 2025 -
I just watched the Way West and the War Wagon, and absolutely love them. I hadnt seen El Dorado since I was a kid, and Robert Mitchum is one of my favorite actors 😻😻 so I was tickled pink when I realized he was in it.
Does anyone have some recommendations for good westerns starring Kirk Douglas or Robert Mitchum?

December 8, 2024 - Douglas often counts this gritty little western as one of his career favorites, and it does indeed contain some of the actor’s best work. Kirk Douglas: The Westerns – (Travalanche)
December 9, 2020 - Today we pay homage to the late Kirk Douglas with a look at some of his westerns. Funny to think of a a Jewish ragman’s son from New York faring so well in oaters, but he did. It may not be the first thing one thinks of, but his work in the genre adds up to something notable, and many of them are with the best ...

Man Without a Star (1955) ⭐ 6.8 | Western
This is probably my favorite Kirk Douglas western. Although it has plenty of action this is not just another action western. Rather it deals with the implacable transition of the west from open range available to all to individually-controlled patches of range that are fenced off with barbed wire.

December 9, 2015 - Douglas is toweringly monstrous here – a vulture appealing to the public’s worst impulses. In fact, he may be the scumbag journo against which all others are measured. He makes J.J. Hunsecker in Sweet Smell of Success (1957) look like a pushover. ... Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1957) John Sturges, a renowned director of westerns, creates a memorable portrayal of the legendary Tombstone shootout in this glossy film.
