Dear r/iphone , interested in your opinions. Now that Apple no longer makes leather cases, which manufacturer makes the best runner up in your estimation? I have owned almost every single iPhone and leather case since the 2g, but I am not a fan of encouraging the proliferation of micro plastics (latest iPhone case material). I think it’s genuinely one of the biggest problems we face today as a species. Thank you for your help!

Trying my best to not make this a generic "what should I buy" thread. I'm hoping for some actual discussion on this. To be clear - I honestly do not want buying recommendations. At all. I want feedback on the various leather case options. Ideally, this thread can be pointed to as a reference for anyone who wants to research the various leather case offerings this generation and come to their own conclusions.

Background - when I get an iPhone I generally swap between two cases based on what I'm doing - a TPU case (I have my favorites), and a leather case. Apple's leather cases have gone downhill. In fact, you can't convince me that the 13-series cases are actually leather. It peels like crazy despite minimal use, and there has been zero patina (not a complaint, I prefer no patina, but if there's no patina after a year then it's not actual leather).

So with that in mind, for those who have a non-Apple branded leather case please provide the following information:

• Which case do you have? (brand and model) (oh, and please specify your phone!)

• If they've changed the branding or product name, what's the current equivalent product available for the 14-series?

• Why did you originally choose it over the Apple leather case?

• What do you like about the case?

• What do you dislike about the case?

To reiterate, responding with "you should buy X" is a useless and less than helpful comment. Providing the info from the above bulleted list helps not only me, but anyone else who wanders into this thread who is sick of the endless stream of Amazon referral link blog spam.

I’m genuinely surprised at the quality of the leather cases this year. The last leather case I purchased from Apple was for the iPhone X. The cases this year feel softer, feel slimmer (thanks to the new boxy design of the phone), and the tight tolerance around the screen are great.

I bought the blue one to try out, and will be keeping it for sure! Just thought I would rely my impressions, since most stores are closed during this time, or they don’t allow for hands on time with the product.

Is the lip deep enough to somewhat protect the screen? How does it wear over a longer period of time?

I'm going to pre-order either the iPhone 12 Pro in Graphite or Pacific Blue (If it's going to be available on the release date). I'm trying to figure out what kind of cases y'all are going to be getting. I'm really good with my iPhones and I'm trying to find something very slim and clear preferably. What brands do you guys all trust these days? I have been looking at Spigen, Totallee, UAG, Tech 21, and Supcase. Any others that I'm missing? I'm looking for a premium type of case that is super slim basically.

I’m upgrading to the iPhone 17 Pro Max next month, but right now I just need a good case for my 16 Pro Max. Plan is to hand it down to my dad later, so if the case is solid I’ll grab the same one for my new phone too.

Tried a bunch of iPhone cases and honestly most of them are trash. The ones that actually protect are usually bulky or just ugly. I’m after something that actually lasts and still looks good basically the best iPhone case that’s both durable and clean looking.

A leather case could be nice too, but only if it’s good quality and not one of those that peels after a month. Anyone got recommendations for the best phone cases for iphone or even iPhone leather case that’s protective and still feels premium?

I have used an OtterBox Defender for years on various phones, and I have never had any problems with them failing to protect my phone. However, I have had a consistent problem with the inner plastic layer cracking and breaking from being pulled out of my pocket. It’s happened on at least three occasions with three separate cases.

This has happened again so I’m in need of a new case, but I’m tired of getting more of the same case that keeps breaking in the same way, so I want to get something else. I’ve used OtterBox cases for a long time, so I’m really not sure what else is good, and reviews I’ve seen online for other brands are a combination of outdated and very mixed. Are there any other good cases out there that protect the phone well and ideally aren’t too slick? I don’t mind bulk all that much, I just want a solid product. This is for an iPhone 12 Pro Max.
