Been mattress shopping for a few weeks now and its brutal. One person gives a mattress 5 stars, best sleep ever, and the next person says its garbage and the worst mattress they've ever tried.

So rather than risk it with a super-expensive mattress, I'm going to go the Costco route. Looks like there are a lot of options from Leesa to Casper to Simply Modern to whatever else.

Out of all the options at costco, I'm wondering what the best choice is? Let's say $1600 or less...

I'm leaning toward the Leesa Legend Hybrid or Casper. Would loooove some help here! I'm so nervous about making the wrong call!

Last year we bought a Stearns Foster from Costco...we hated it, it was way too stiff for us. Sent it back after 6 weeks and got a different one...I don't remember which one...at first it was great but within 3 months it was way too soft. Sent that one back and got Costco's tempur pedic. That was 9 months ago and we still love it. Best sleep ever. Costco's return service was perfect.... same crew each time. They picked up and dropped off same day...let me take pictures for proof of pick up. It couldn't have been easier. I'm not saying you should get the same mattress we did, I'm saying if you get one you don't like the return process is easy.

I’m looking for a mattress but I can’t test any of them at my Costco. When my wife moved in we used her foam one and I hate it, my shoulders and lower back hurt every night.

My old one which I loved was a firm mattress with a built in foam top. It was firm enough to support me (6’ 250 lbs), but soft enough with the top that I could sleep on my side.

My weird mattress advice - no Costco related. If you go to a hotel and like the bed, just purchase it from their website. It’s a good “try it before you buy it” way. Yeah there’s probably a bit of a price premium, but at least you know you’re buying what you like.

I’ve been on a bit of a mattress journey with Costco. First tried the Sealy Carver Firm—loved it at first, but over time it developed a sag. Now, I’m testing out the Novaform Legacy Premier, and it’s definitely ultra firm.. like too firm, not conforming whatsoever and has zero bounce, which I’m not sure I love.

Thinking about returning it and going for an Avocado instead. Anyone have long-term success with a Costco mattress that held up? Would love to hear what worked (or didn’t) for you!

I have the stearns and foster Lakeridge. After a year it is significantly sagging where we sleep. I’m 5’9 180 and my girlfriend is 5’4 115 for reference, so not people who are prone to making mattresses sag.

Has anyone bought a Costco mattress they are really happy with and had held up well over time?

Currently looking at Novaform Legacy (4.4 stars), Novaform Comfortgrande (4.5 stars), Casper cooling select hybrid (4.4 stars), Casper cooling select memory foam (4.5 stars)

I can’t attest to test-of-time, but we got a Leesa hybrid mattress from Costco when they were on sale for under $1000 and we love it. It’s on the firmer side of midrange.

Im digging the Costco Tempurpedic, the non-hybrid medium one! Its my first nice mattress, and I feel like I can not worry about whether it will sag or not because of Costco's killer warranty. Roughly 6 months in, break in was maybe a month, and it wasn't bad during that time. Very happy.

So my husband and I need to get a new mattress and are thinking about Costco for it. We bought a brand new mattress at a random mattress store back in 2017 right after we got married. In less then 7 months it had formed huge divots from my husbands pressure points down the bed. You couldn’t find anywhere to lie comfortably. We tried taking it back to the random mattress retailer after 7 months and they said “nope, so sad. Would you like to buy a NEW one?” So our supposedly first big purchase after getting married turned into a huge waste of $2k bucks.

Since then we have literally bought second hand mattresses when needed at a fraction of the cost. Things were great with that until my dear mother came to visit. You’d think she slept in an Iron Maiden. She then tears the sheets off and saw it had a goodwill tag (the horror). I can’t describe the mix of anger, bewilderment, disgust, et al that came from that woman’s mouth. (I hurried and grabbed the sheets before she saw they were from IKEA just in case that was an issue!)

That brings me to my question for everyone. Anyone acquire a mattress from our store and savior, Costco? I’d like to get some different opinions but let’s be real. The ONLY thing I care about is the return policy. The 2017 divot debacle cannot happen again! Id like to know that if anything happens all I have to do is take it back like that 2009 sofa set, those too small pants and anything from Amylu (sorry guys. Just ew) Thanks for listening! We got our novaform king mattress there a few years ago. Still love it and way cheaper than anything else we were looking at.

Our solution (which took us over a year and a variety of mattresses to discern) is a bit unconventional, but highly recommended. We are large, tall side sleepers, both of us. But we are nearly 100 pounds different in weight. So, our support needs are different even though we want to sleep side by side. We need a king size mattress/ sleep surface. Here's the brainwave: two XL Twin mattresses strapped together make a bed the size of a King. We ordered one for each of us from Costco in the firmness we like with the coordinating foundations for each and a memory foam topper also in our preferred firmness. We used Velcro straps to lash the foundations together and we can sleep next to each other now without disturbing each other with movement or one of us being uncomfortable to accommodate for the other's sleep preferences. I buy XL Twin mattress covers, King Size fitted sheets, and XL Twin flat sheets. We both use our own blankets and I'll toss over a king size duvet if I want it to look pretty. I hope this helps! It saves us a ton of money and just as much sleep. Best of luck!

Had the Lakeridge. Innerspring is too aggressive for a side sleeper like me who weighs 175lbs. I could feel the innerspring in my hip at night. Also the pillow top that is tempurpedic material bottomed out in 4 months. Just returned it for the Novaform Legacy. This is our second night in. It is firm but a hybrid firm so it has some give. I don’t feel the pressure on my hip like I did with the Lakeridge, yet I feel supported. In a few weeks it should break in a bit more and give me more comfort. I’ll keep you posted every week or so on the comfort. You can also hunt down my previous posts on the Lakeridge. The Lakeridge started out nice but you will need a topper to give it some extra cushion. But at 14.5 inches and another 2 inch topper, you will have to buy all new sheets that fit it. Unacceptable for the pillow top to bottom out and feel the innersprings. I would say these are both firm mattresses. Not medium firm. The Novaform may soften with time.

I’ve been cycling through quite a few mattresses from Costco. I’m 5’8” 160 pounds with back/neck pain and insomnia worsened by Lyme disease. I sleep on my back. My wife is 5’6” 130 pounds and a side sleeper. She can sleep anywhere. I’ve been having quite a bit of trouble with my sleep. For all of the beds, I broke them in over the first few weeks and rotated them regularly. The mt auburn was too firm for me and generally didn’t feel all that great. It was a decent mattress overall but wasn’t it for me. Like most mattresses without a softer pressure relieving layer, it caused hip stiffness and pain. Sealy posturepedic ridge crest was a step up. The euro top added a decent layer of comfort, but the bed started hammocking within a few months and became uncomfortable to me as I really like an even surface. My wife liked this bed though. We briefly tried the 12” sleep science Sonoma flippable mattress but I couldn’t last more than an hour on it. It felt cheap and unsupportive. The novaform serafina is a decent feeling but firm mattress that I occasionally sleep on at my parents house. Well constructed but I find it to not have enough pressure relief (though maybe it’s not well broken in). The Sleep science 13” Napa is my favorite of them all, but it only comes in a split king and I already have an adjustable base. The memory foam comfort layer is thin but relieves pressure, and the latex layer under that does a great job of easing you into the denser foam beneath. I’ve only slept on it once and it felt great, but when I demo it or lay on it, it feels amazing. Kirkland Stearns and Foster. I had this for the longest, about a year. I wanted to keep this mattress forever but there were a few flaws that ended up disrupting my sleep. The quality of construction and materials feels great. While it came firm, it broke in nicely and was a premium feeling mattress. I ended up adding a 1.5” inch cooling memory foam topper to add just a bit of pressure relief and it felt perfect for a while. After about 9 months, the body indents were starting to make my shoulders shrug upward. The kings ridge pressed on my side as well. And the edge support is too wide, as those springs wear differently than the main support coils. All of these things together caused the usable sleep area to be quite small on the king mattress and it stopped being supportive/comfortable to me. If this stayed how it felt I’d have kept it. Tempur pedic flex prima hybrid. This is the bed I’m currently on, it’s been about 2 weeks, so I don’t have a full review of it, but it’s been decent. I like how uniform the surface feels. It’s quite firm right now, but I’m expecting it to break in a little bit. If it’s a 7.5 firm right now, I think the bed will be great at a 6 or 6.5. It provides great support, but just a bit more pressure relief would go a long way. I might try a 2 inch Tempur pedic topper on it to see if it gives it that softness without losing too much underlying support. Overall, I do think many people (my wife being one of them) would have been happy with many or most of the mattresses I’ve tried. Costco’s return policy is keeping me sane while trying to figure out how to deal with my aches and pains. I’m realizing I should probably turn this into a post haha

I have the Casper from Costco I originally bought for my daughter’s apartment. She used it with her then finance for two years before they moved to a King. Anyway, it’s a good firm, to me, mattress. No complaints from guests and my daughter loved it. I slept on it a few times and was fine. It’s seems to be holding up well for the type of use it’s getting. For reference my daughter 5’8” 135, her husband 6’4 185. Long thin people but with joint issues. I’m 5’6 160.

The vacuum packed Nova form mattress is the best mattress I have ever owned. Its firm. Had for about 5 years now and both wife and myself are very happy with it.

Limiting my search to Costco because I’m in a big city and the pain of heading over to various mattress stores and the woes of delivery are too much. We are 7 years into a nectar mattress and I wake up daily with my lower back soooooo stiff and im hoping it’s just my mattress and not that I’m elderly at age 35. I’m a stomach sleeper and weigh between 120-125 lbs and my partner is ‘ 190 and a back and stomach sleeper. I think? I like firmer mattresses with plushier pillow tops but honestly who knows. Sometimes pure memory foam beds feel too squishy and like I’m sleeping in a giant dog bed. I’m looking at the Novaforms but very open to ideas!

My experience with the Novaform comfortgrande advanced gel memory foam mattress has been unpleasant. I’ve had it for about a year now and I regret purchasing it. The best way that I can explain it is that it feels like a hard marshmallow. It’s hard to move around on because I just sink right in. It has given me nothing but collar bone/shoulder discomfort and more recently it has been giving me lower back pain and hip pain. I’m only in my early 30s, but I’ve never had a bad experience like this with a mattress before. I’m finding myself sleeping sitting up propped up against my pillows just to avoid the pain and discomfort.

Don't buy a foam bed in a box. They crater way fast. Also, stay away from pillow tops for the same reason.

I’ve got the 14” Novaform comfort grand and the 3” serenity tempur-pedic topper. I’m also a side sleeper w back issues and put a waterproof cover on, 3 dogs…. It’s been nice and I’d do it again. No dips or dents after a few years now.

I find foam mattresses way too hot and by conforming to the body, make it way too difficult to move. We purchased an Aviya innerspring mattress a few years ago and continue to be happy with it.

If you want a somewhat budget option, the Novaform 14” is pretty good for the price. I’ve got mine at $399, and it’s been good for me.

It looks like the $1,800 Tempur-Pedic and $1,400 Avocado are highly rated as top-tier options in this sub—can anyone confirm? I’m thinking about going all-in on the best since I’m returning my Sealy Carver Firm after a few years of sagging and back pain.

Update: Ordered the Novaform Legacy Premier since it seems firmer than the Leesa Legend. From what I’ve gathered, the Avocado is the better choice if I want something less firm compared to the Leesa Legend. Novaform was on sale, while Avocado wasn’t, so I figured I’d try Novaform for now. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll wait for Avocado to go on sale and return/exchange.

Don’t have experience with either, but I recently bought a mattress from Costco and my approach was - start with the cheaper option you’re considering, and if you don’t like it after a few months, return and upgrade to next expensive one. Rinse and repeat until you find a mattress that works for you. Thats the best way to maximize savings while utilizing the Costco return policy responsibly, imo.

The Novaform mattress is FANTASTIC!!! I’ve bought them for multiple beds. I have had pretty severe neck and back issues in the past, and it was the only mattress that I was comfortable on. It’s much better than the expensive mattresses I’ve had!

I randomly bought a cheap mattress at Costco. I thought all mattresses are the same. I have never had a good night sleep until I slept at Courtyard Marriott hotel. I found out they bought Saatva beds. I think they are a high end brand. They are expensive, but they have installment plans, and a white glove treatment. Don't compromise on your sleep. Invest in a good mattress. They have a showroom where you can test out their mattresses.
