Best mattress topper for back pain.
I'd suggest contacting Sleep On Latex about getting one of their latex toppers. You could discuss your best option with them directly, but I'd think given your light weight a 2" or 3" topper would work in either their soft or medium firmness. Good luck and please let us know what you decide on.

I'm okay with low quality toppers. They're easily replaceable and can change the feel of a bed dramatically. I'm also okay with high quality toppers. Toppers in general are a great way to optimize an imperfect or cheap mattress. Polyfoam can be great and is super breathable. If purchased in an appropriate high density (1.8lb PCF or, honestly, even 1.5lb PCF) then it can be long lasting. Cheap memory foam can be okay if it's just used for surface softness and not thick enough to alter support. Not cheap memory foam can be great. I've slept on a couple mattresses with wool toppers and they were awesome. Very breathable, much like smartwool fabrics. Latex is good, though a distinct feel. Feathers can work. Cotton batting can work. Hmm, pretty much anything can work as a topper. When I was living abroad I used a sleeping bag on top of an old bed. Worked great.
However, there are a few issues to be aware of when picking one. First, I don't like it when the topper is firmer than the underlying foam. It creates an odd floaty feel that I'm not a fan of. This can sometimes happen with "medium firmness" toppers. Second, sometimes the friction between the often "tacky" surface feel of a high density topper can impede a pointy body parts passage through the comfort materials. This is often felt as a "bound up" feeling or a "hardness" in the shoulder while side sleeping. That's just friction impeding point elasticity. Third, very soft materials that are low density can lead to reduced support. I'm a thin framed person and I get thrown out of wack on a lot of beds if there's a topper greater than two inches. Cheap foam is not supportive. It should not be a support material inside the mattress and if it's on top in large amounts then you're also gonna lose support.
And those are my thoughts on toppers. Whew.

Please I’m in a desperate need for a mattress topper. My mattress is too firm. Absolutely no give. It’s equivalent to sleeping on the floor but laying down two blankets. I was fine for a bit, but I haven’t slept home in about a week or so, and I don’t think I realized the impact it has on me. It takes me forever to get out of bed, and I never understood why, and then I realized it’s because my back is killing me!
Any suggestions? I weigh about 130-135 pounds and I’m about 5’2. I’m willing to spend $200. I have a queen size mattress.

I had a really really firm mattress, like a rock. I ordered a 2" medium topper from sleep on latex and it helped quite a bit. 3" might have been even better, but we ended up getting a whole new mattress, because I couldn't stand the innerspring system. I'm small like you, 5' 1", 118 lbs.
Hi Everybody, I'm Dr. Nick!
Ok, I'm not Dr. Nick, but I am a bit of an Asshole. Yes, I did capitalize that A. However, if proven wrong (Thank you, u/3DXYZ ) I'm more than willing to admit it as evidenced by this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Mattress/comments/939hww/memory_foam_mattress_without_fiberglass/
That being said, if you haven't been following the complete waste of my time that is Topper Debate-gate 2018 between u/whynotmynaut and myself, I'll give you the link: https://www.reddit.com/r/Mattress/comments/94li34/help/
If you want a headache, just scroll down and read the back and forth regarding toppers.
So, what's YOUR opinion regarding toppers? Because I have mine and I can actually back mine up with some personal knowledge that doesn't involve 'gel foam'.........
WHY DO I ASK? Well, because I expend a LOT of time and effort answering posts and personal message with, what I can hope, is valued bedding advice, and I'm HAPPY to do it. However, there are people here who have absolutely no idea what they're talking about and it's just endlessly tiring to hear them spout off without the willingness to back up their claims - or to refuse to change their opinion even when new and better information is smacking them right in the face.
Thanks for your time r/Mattress.

Latex or polyfoam all the way. Latex for breathability and durability and polyfoam for "pretty good and cheap."
Gel memory foam is for suckers. Some people are just ignoridiots....
I don't remember the last time I slept through the night. I'm constantly waking up to turn the pillow over to the cool side (I bought the pillow three years ago) and I'll move to whatever part of the mattress is cool. I block the heat register...and sometimes when it's cold outside I'll leave the window open a crack...just in an attempt to stay cool enough so I won't wake up.
I'm tired all the time and I just can't take it anymore. I need relief from the heat. I just want to sleep cool and sleep through the night. I can't imagine I'm the only person with this problem. Your mattress and pillow recommendations are greatly appreciated!
BTW...I'll also take mattress pad/topper recommendations. I don't know how 2" - 3" of a pad/topper might make a difference, but if it works, I'll try it!
Budget-wise...my budget is tight...but if the mattress really, truly will help me stay cool through the night, I'll do whatever it takes. I just want to sleep through the night.
Note: I've always slept hot...but hormonal issues have made things significantly worse. There is nothing medically wrong...it's just the way it is. Sleeping with a sheet, fan, feet out, etc...are all things I've done. I do sleep naked. Nothing works. Anything anyone might suggest when it comes altering my sleeping environment...I've tried it...I've tried it all. I'm looking for product ideas from people who sleep hot and will share what has worked for them.
I bought a hybrid bed but it’s too firm. I don’t want a memory foam topper I don’t think. I sleep hot and memory foam in my experience is meh. I’m thinking of a pillow topper, but all the lists I find for “best mattress topper” are paid for by Amazon and just not reliable IMO.
Edit- I am looking for specific brands of down, synthetic down, wool, or cotton mattress toppers that people have enjoyed. Thanks in advance!
Fair persons of reddit, my partner and I have different sleeping preferences and I need you to save our relationship. I cannot sleep hot, but she needs it to conform to her body— We are in a death match, latex vs memory foam. I see that memory foam sleeps hot, and people say the ‘cooling’ memory foam is a farse. My parent is very sensitive to the pressure points when she sleeps on her side and needs to sink in.
Is there any hope for us? Maybe a latex/ memory foam hybrid? Can you sleep cool but still be fitted like a glove? Any help please and thank you.
I am a chiropractor. I have recommended SleepOnLatex 3” soft latex topper to dozens of patients & all have loved it.
Not too long ago, there was a thread about "Serene foam" which is a fairly new type of memory foam that has these microscopic air capsules inside to promote breathability. It does its job adequately and does not retain heat like memory foam. Well, I bought it. I think you'd benefit from it, I think it's worth the hype, and I've become a Serene foam evangelist.
This is what I bought: Comfort Tech Serene Foam 2-inch Topper
