The 1/4" stuff would be HEAVY and something as shown in 4'x4' would need 2 people to move or tractor.

February 19, 2024 - this is when you make a sacrificial part. make the main body from whatever metal you want for looks, then have an internal liner of basic 1/8" or so mild steel. the liner will slowly wear away from oxidizing and dealing with the heat, but it would be very easy to replace every 5 years or so. if this is going to be an in-place pit (one you never move), the best choice for longevity is stone. there are firepits from thousands of years ago that are still in usable condition.
