$10K might be a stretch for a Mazda CX-5, but if you can find one it's clearly your best option. What might be a bit more attainable for that price is a 2013-2018 Ford Escape S. Front-wheel-drive; 2.5-liter engine. Any other Escape is a reliability nightmare, which makes this one cheap. But this one has an older Mazda-designed Duratec engine, so it's okay. I do like the older RAV4s and CR-Vs. This is the one class where they're good enough cars that I'd recommend them at the premium they come with. The Mazda and Ford would be newer, but you wouldn't regret buying one of these either. More on reddit.com

Hi guys,
What will be the best bang for my buck?
I know the typical options are:
RAV4, CRV, CX5, outback/forester/crosstrek
1, Any other undervalued gems that would be better?
2. Which of these of the Japanese ones would be best? (Also which years and mileage to stay within)
Other considerations:
-
Would be fine with subcompacts if they are spacious in the back
-
CarPlay would be nice to have but probably not possible at this price point
Appreciate any suggestions

A sleeper pick is the second generation Lexus RX (2004-2009). A lot of grandma owned well cared for ones out there and although they’re getting old they’re ultra reliable. I moved to a major rail city and downgraded my car and got a 2006 and it has been great. Preferred an older luxury car than a newer dirty stained cloth seat suv with like 150k miles. I put in a cheap aftermarket carplay and backup cam from Amazon. I got it with 80k miles and planning on keeping it around until it dies at like 200k Good luck

This will be a very high mileage vehicle. Any of the Honda crv or Toyota rav4 (they hold their values really well) will be over >150,000 miles and older than 2010. I can’t even think of a single sedan that’s under $10,000 nevertheless a small suv. In this day and age, I would go with an older rav4. In my area, a 2010 rav4 with 150,000 goes for $9,995.
