Goodbye Node.js Buffer
In case you're too lazy to read: The blog post discusses the Node.js Buffer's history, its issues like security vulnerabilities and inefficiencies, and the introduction of a new alternative, TypedArray. The author explains how TypedArray addresses Buffer's shortcomings, providing a more secure and efficient way of handling binary data in Node.js. The transition from Buffer to TypedArray marks a significant improvement in Node.js, aligning it with modern JavaScript standards. If you don't like the summary, just downvote and I'll try to delete the comment eventually 👍 More on reddit.com

What is buffer in Node js?
A buffer is simply a representation of binary data. Everything in nodejs, from a string, to a bool, can be watered down into 1’s and 0’s. A buffer lets you take binary, a string, or a number, and then turn it into bits. Buffers are used with the Filesystem (“fs”), HTTP requests/servers, and more commonly in “streams”. Edit: streams take a buffer (or, another stream) and break it into a bunch of tiny buffers. When doing stuff like compression, encryptions, etc. then the stream will make sure only a small buffer is calculated at a time, sending in the small buffers in one at a time. More on reddit.com

GitHub - arextar/browser-buffer: A node-like buffer interface for the browser · GitHub
An attempt at mimicing node.js's Buffer API in the browser using typed arrays. This project uses a lot of code from node.js's (lib/buffer.js)[https://github.com/joyent/node/blob/master/lib/buffer.js]. This library still needs a lot of work both to get it running across the board and to clean up some of the pollution it puts on the UInt8Array prototype.

Buffer | Node.js v26.10.0 Documentation
The Buffer class is a subclass of JavaScript's <Uint8Array> class and extends it with methods that cover additional use cases. Node.js APIs accept plain <Uint8Array>s wherever Buffers are supported as well. While the Buffer class is available within the global scope, it is still recommended to explicitly reference it via an import or require statement. import { Buffer } from 'node:buffer'; // Creates a zero-filled Buffer of length 10.

The SharedArrayBuffer object is used to represent a generic raw binary data buffer, similar to the ArrayBuffer object, but in a way that they can be used to create views on shared memory. A SharedArrayBuffer is not a Transferable Object, unlike an ArrayBuffer which is transferable. To share memory using SharedArrayBuffer objects from one agent in the cluster to another (an agent is either the web page's main program or one of its web workers), postMessage and structured cloning is used.
