The worst that could happen is that the pillows lose their shape, and you end up not liking them anymore. If they’re real down, certain detergents could also ruin the filling. Honestly, I’d try to find a dry cleaner in your case. But if that’s not an option, here’s what I would do. Wash the pillows with Purex detergent—and I’ll say it again, Purex detergent—using warm water and an extra rinse. Make sure you get the Purex without "Oxi" as you want no enyzmes. Mountain Spring, Natural Elements, and Free & Clear do not. Only wash them in the largest machine at the laundromat because you need a deep fill with as much water as possible. When it’s time to dry, put them in the dryer on low heat with at least six wool or tennis dryer balls for two pillows. After they’re dry, run them through the dryer again with no heat to help fluff them up even more. I’d still rather you dry clean them, but if you really can’t, this is the best way to wash down. No enzymes, no hot water, and definitely not cold. Answer from LaundryMitch on reddit.com

Machine wash cool in a gentle cycle using a mild detergent. Tumble dry low. Our duvet covers arrive slightly larger than our comforters and are designed to appropriately shrink after a few cycles through the wash.

r/Bedding on Reddit: Buffy Review
September 3, 2019 -

TLDR: I would recommend the Buffy breeze duvet insert but not the sheet set or duvet cover.

Well I wanted to post a review somewhere since Buffy won’t let me post a review to their website, which I find to be quite dishonest; their reviews are definitely curated to only show 5 star reviews. I was initially drawn in by the promise of cooling bedding and went forward with purchasing because of their sustainability goals. I ended up buying their duvet insert, duvet cover, & sheet set which I have used for a few months now.

Duvet (Breeze) insert review:

  • positives: plush, more cooling than my feather duvet, ideal for spring & fall weather

  • negatives: still sleep hot & would probably be better off with a thin quit or blanket

Duvet cover review:

  • positives: soft

  • negatives: improper sizing (too much material so it does not fit the insert; they say it will shrink but I have washed & dried it at least 5 times and it has not shrank a bit), extreme static when you take it out of the dryer

Sheets review:

  • positives: soft

  • negatives: improper sizing (the top sheet is too small), elastic for fitted sheet does not work properly so it does not stay put during the night & bunches ups A LOT (Target sheets have better elastic), extreme static from dryer

What was your experience? The Buffy site says to spot clean or dry clean their pillows but 1) I need to do more than spot clean, and 2) I can’t find a place that will dry clean pillows. I want to just toss them in the wash at this point, but I want to know what damage (if any) to expect.

r/Bedding on Reddit: Buffy comforter falling apart after less than 1 year
April 24, 2020 -

Mostly wondering if anyone has the same issues. I purchased the Buffy comforter last year and now less than a year later the top part of the filling has already broken apart and started balling up. We’ve never washed it in the machine and only took it to the dry cleaners twice in that amount of time.

Anyone else have issues with the comforters?

r/Bedding on Reddit: Rest Evercool vs Buffy - my opinions after buying both.
October 7, 2025 -

Okay I finally bit the bullet this year and just forked over to try both for the summer. After having a set of lyocell sheets I loved in the past for their cool smooth feel, I wanted to see what these two hyped brands were like. (You can view my reddit history, I'm just a random person who likes medium fancy bedding, not sponsored or anything). I had shopped for like a year, watching sale prices, and read reviews and thought about what to try since last summer!

I bought sheet set, comforter (well rest is just a thin blanket), pillow cases from both compankes. I also got the buffy duvet cover for their comforter.

I got the pink stripe from Buffy and love the look. I got reversible aqua blue color set from Rest.

Additionally, I got a set of Quince bamboo tencel type sheet and duvet cover set to use when my others were in the wash, and to compare.

So the comparison:

Buffy is similar to other lyocell sheet sets I have had but just a touch beefier, less floppy, more body almost like a (soft) percale. Compared to the quince bamboo they look nicer on the bed because less thin. The sizing esp of the duvet cover for their own comforter is really stupid, it doesn't fit right and there is an extra foot of space. This is a pet peeve for me. Especially at this price. I did find them slightly cooling and comfy, and they were my favorite all summer of all the sheets I have. Held up well in the wash so far, little or no pilling or snags, used oxy concentrate to get out some stains and worked well.

Rest is more like a technical silky icey cooling totally synthetic fabric. They feel really really different. They actually are so slippery the comforter slides off the side of the bed during the night (not great). Constantly having a silky cool place to move my leg or hand was delightful however. They really helped mitigate my friends night sweats too so he slept better. Really stretchy. You can see the silver lines in the weave too which is interesting. Pretty color, and held up through several washing so far. I am worried how the blanket will hold up to frequent washing since putting a cover on it negates most of the cooling, its right on skin to work. I don't think I would bother with a top sheet since these slide all over and slip off bc of the fabric. Just bottom sheet pillow cases and rest blanket. I don't see snags or pilling yet after a few months in rotation.

Okay I had wondered about comparing these for years, so I thought I'd share for the next person!
