You cannot. Two factor authentication relies on having a phone number or another Apple device in order to receive verification codes. You can add another trusted phone number if you choose as it doesn't need to be an iPhone, just a phone that can receive text messages. I have a new MacBook for work and I'm trying to set it up. It's a new job and I want to create an apple id just for this job. However, creating an apple id requires 2fa with a phone number, and apparently verification codes are down at Apple so I can't create the id. Any ETA on this being fixed? I'm trying to create the id from the website

For anyone who's still having this problem (in 2025), I found that making an account through the App Store works like a charm! I was going through the older comments' suggestions, which includes the "keep resending the verification code till it works", so I tried it out. Probably clicked the resend button more than 30 times (30 times through the phone's settings and 30 times through the Apple website via laptop) and not only is it annoying and time-consuming, but it also doesn't work. Also tried resending through other phone numbers, and nada. Went back to this post and read another suggestion about making an account through the App Store, and it worked first try. Hope this helps!

I think I remember making this Apple ID account on an IPhone 6. It wasn't really old, I just had it since 2020. Then entered the ID on my new phone, mom forced me to log out, it's a whole story. Now, whenever I tried to log in, it just asks for an IPhone 10 device?? Maybe it means my current device but I don't really know. Also, IPhone 6 got resetted/restarted, I think that's what the thing is called when it loses all data. I really need to log in, but I'm probably cooked, I've also realized lately I don't even have a phone number, so that sucks. This post is my last hope, tbh.

You can only receive the verification code on other devices that are also logged into the same Apple ID or to the phone number that is on the Apple ID account. If the Apple ID does not have the correct phone number or you don’t have access to the devices that are logged into that account then you have lost access to that account. In other words, if you don’t maintain the account you lose the account.

To begin account recovery you need to know your trusted number but don’t need to be able to receive the code. However if you neglected to keep that number current or have since forgotten it you will not be able to get back into the Apple ID.

So I randomly got this message and I haven’t signed into my account on a new device or anything nor have I received an email saying someone was trying to sign into my account. This message was sent to my trusted device for 2FA. I changed my password for my Apple ID and also Gmail just to be safe.
