The problem with Canada Computers is that they're not like Best Buy. They're not as big, they don't add as much margin, and they arguably deal with more SKUs when it comes to computer parts. You really need to know what you're doing, especially if you're buying individual parts. If a non-techie person buys from them and expects similar policies as a major chain, they will get pissed off when they find out CC is more like a B2B retailer, with restock fees and such. I've never had any issues with RMAs, but expect issues if you buy an item and try to return it because you chose the wrong item. Answer from CDNChaoZ on reddit.com

Buyer Beware - Canada Computers
How did you pay? If it was by credit card, consider talking to them about a chargeback. You were sold defective goods, and have documentation. More on reddit.com

How does buying from Canada Computers work?
You don’t go to CC to get their sales associates to recommend you parts. You get someone here to do it. Get the parts yourself and ask CC to build it for you. Going to CC and ask for their “advice” is asking to get fleeced. More on reddit.com

Canada Computers aren't a scam, or anything... they're just not very pro-consumer. Just don't rely on their advice, and be very very careful about return policies so you can make sure everything works before return windows pass. More on reddit.com

PSA for the risks of doing business with Canada computers, would hate to see anyone else have to deal with this kind of ridiculousness.

On Monday, Nov 27th, I visited the Barrie location to purchase a monitor during cyber Monday. When I got home and set it up, the panel was defective and would not display an image. No big deal, I return to the store the next day to return it, the service tech does their inspection and confirms the monitor is defective. And here's where it hits the fan, while processing the return they notice that the serial on the panel does not match the serial on the box and tell me they need to hear back from corporate before proceeding. I get some paperwork that they're holding onto the monitor and asked to wait 24 hours, okay.

Later that night I get a call from the same service tech telling me that they will not be issuing me a refund and I'm welcome to call the manager the next day to talk about. I go into the store the next day, am basically told the same thing, that they won't refund me and he's "waiting" to hear back on if they can do anything for me. No apologies, no sense of urgency or care about the fact I'm out on this.

Fast forward multiple calls and emails with customer support, over the week, with no follow-up from the store. Today I get a call back from the Senior Retail Manager Gary who again explains to me that because of the mismatch I will not be getting a refund. And goes as far to tell me not to raise my voice or disrespect him, mid conversation, when I begin to get frustrating.

I'm at a complete loss for words at how ridiculous this entire situation has been and how incredibly terrible Canada computers support has been from the top down.

Top top it all off if you put in the serial number from the box into Acer support, it comes up as invalid. While the number on the panel is valid. This couldn't be more obviously an issue with the vendor.

I'm building a pc and looked at the Canada Computers retail locations and they are all rated very poorly. This makes me think I probably don't want to purchase in person in case something is wrong with the product, and I have to return it, as stories on the reviews say that they are very bad with product returns. However, their website has really good deals, sometimes +100$ off the product. Is it more reliable than the in-person locations?

I have almost no knowledge of building PCs. I don't want to go through the headache of researching and ordering parts online as I have no interest in doing so. Or getting advice from random friends or people who may or may not be experts and have their own opinions on what's best.

Because of that, I was recommended Canada Computers as they can apparently help choose parts specifically for what I need the PC for within my budget. Is it a good idea to go? I don't see many other options, and I do NOT want to order parts online through my research.

So can I be sure I'm getting close to the best bang for my buck? If a part is out of stock will they try selling me something they have there? or will they recommend I wait for it to come back in stock? are there any alternatives? I dont really know what to ask, just give me your general opinions please!

Edit, I took all of your advice and did my own made my own build in another post. Looking for advice on that

I am planning on building a new pc, and most of the parts that are a decent price are from Canada computers but most reviews about it are not good or just horrible, so should I buy from them and if not from where should I get parts?

thanks and have a good day/afternoon/night
