February 13, 2019 - Specs-wise the EOS RP is very similar to the 4.5 years old first generation Sony a7. Similar resolution, similar EVF, similar FPS, similar weight.. Biggest difference is probably in video; Sony does only 1080P, whereas Canon can do 4K..
Is the RP a good camera?
If you're not going to go with the RP then look at the R8. The RP was my first full frame and held me down for 3 years while I learned a lot. I've had the R8 for about 4 months now. Both are great beginner cameras in the R lineup. More on reddit.com

Love mine! Been using it since it came out. But it really depends on your usage and needs. It’s not the fastest at autofocus, but for the biggest drawback is the slow burst speed - it peaks out around 4 shots per second as far as I know which means you may not capture something at just the right moment if you’re going ham on the burst photos. But otherwise, 10/10 recommend if you can get it for a good deal. Pretty darn good sensor, decent low light performance. The newer mirrorless cameras will blow it out of the water but I haven’t felt the need to upgrade yet. I highly recommend at least a RF 50mm f1.8 lens - use it a lot with mine. But others can speak to other lens recommendations! I believe the R8 is a new update to the RP which will have many quality of life improvements, so you may want to look into that. I wouldn’t pay full price for a new RP at this point, but a good used one for a good price, definitely worth it IMO. More on reddit.com

The RP is a great entry into full frame mirrorless. I love mine! Sometimes I wonder if I should have gone with the r7/r10 but it sounds like you don’t want a crop. No complaints with the RP and the casual photography I do More on reddit.com

June 8, 2021 - I've owned the EOS RP since November of '20. I got it on sale along with the RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM kit lens on sale for $999. it was a great deal and I have no regrets at all. In my case, I was looking to move up to full frame AND mirrorless and this provided a great price point in which to do so.
