CarGurus price history and what it means.
Anyone here sell a car directly to cargurus?

There is a car listed on CarGurus and the price history is as follows:
Current asking price: $42,990
4/22/2024: $45,390
3/15/2024: $45,990
2/28/2024: $46,990
Can I interpret this to mean that this dealer had at least 4K of "wiggle room" on the price back in February?
If I had gone to this dealer on 2/28/2024 and said: "I'll buy it today for $42,990." would I have been laughed at because my offer was thousands below the current ask?
If I had purchased this car on 2/28/2024 for $46,990, doesn't this prove I would have overpaid by $4K and so asking for thousands off the listed price of a used car is a legitimate request?
I mean fast-forward less than 2 months and here they are willing to sell it for 4K less.
This isn't an isolated case. I see this quite frequently.
Just curious as to what the thoughts are on this.
Edit to add: This is a used vehicle.
