Guide to buying used cars in nj?

the main thing i can recommend is to have a mechanic look the car over before buying if possible. i see alot of cars come in that a customer just bought that end up needing alot of work that they weren’t told about. it shouldnt cost much or take too long to have it looked over (maybe about an hour/$100)

with the prices of most used cars right now it would suck to spend a good deal of money then a month later have a big bill due at a shop to keep the car on the road or to be driving it around unsafe. good luck

I always used newspaper ads till Craigslist basically supplanted those. I'm pretty sure my last car that I bought was advertised over Craigslist. The car title lists the owner. You can simply refuse to deal with anyone but the owner. (It also shows the number of owners the car has had.) Choose a mechanic near where the vehicle is located and arrange to pay for the inspection yourself. Seller takes car to the mechanic, but mechanic works for you. Expect a one-hour labor charge. Expect to pay with a cashier's check. And have seller drive the car to you -- it simplifies license plate removal immensely, as the seller keeps the plates. STUDY the back of the title document. Make damned sure that gets filled out correctly during the sale. Do not pay for the car if there's an error -- any error -- in filling that out, as the MVC won't accept it. If there's an error, the seller has to go to the MVC and replace the title document.
