November 30, 2022WTF - you can change a Google account password with nothing else but an Android phone connected to the account.
Misleading title--you didn't have 2-step verification enabled. I tried that same procedure, got stopped by 2-step verification after step 3. It wanted to send a verification code to my backup email that needed to be input into my phone. A more accurate title would be: WTF - you can easily change a Google account password that doesn't have 2-step verify enabled ENABLE TWO-STEP VERIFICATION FOLKS. IT SAVES LIVES. More on reddit.com

Add a recovery email. If your phone is lost, that may be the only way you can verify that the account is yours so you can access it on another device. Google may still want to text you a code by default, since you already entered your phone number, but you could eventually be prompted for the email option. You could also generate some one-time security codes and keep a copy of them with you. There’s probably more danger of you getting locked out of your account than there is of getting your account broken into. Adding multiple recovery methods will help insure that doesn’t happen. I had to change my Gmail password (on PC), got the notif that it would stay logged in on my phone, which it has, but the mail app wouldn't load my emails. When I go in it gives me a message can't log in/to verify. I click on it to go update the password but it just has my email address and under authentication says it's signed in with Google, no where to change password. When I click done it just says log in error, check username and password.
I tried changing the password again via account settings and it went through but the mail app still won't change. How do I update it??
