Personal rant: What are those manufacturers smoking? In my example above, 1I2 converts to 2021-September-02. So it's formatted YMD, and the letter's order in the alphabet correlates to the month. Okay, a little weird but I can get the hang of it. But then I look at a Nivea product, B0003389. What could this possibly mean? 30 mins of searching later. It's Julian calendar day? Why? But wait, it's not even standard Julian format. The right format is YYDDD, and they use DDDY, the year at the end only has 1 digit. So B0003389 means the 338th day of 2019. Just WHY? Gimme YYMMDD!!! I waste 30 mins to 1 hour of my life every time I have to look up a japanese product batch code's meaning. Hope this can save people's time. More on reddit.com

i'm not sure with this one specifically but you can usually tell when a japanese sunscreen was manufactured by looking at the package. the package is updated every couple years or so. if yuo google 'sunscreen name plus year' or look on ratzilla, you'll be able to narrow it down to the year range, but not a specific date.
