r/horror on Reddit: What are some classic horror movies that I must see as a horror fan?
November 5, 2023 -
So I’m a lifelong horror fan, my first horror movie was 1408 when I was 9 (I’m now 24), but I’ve mostly stuck to watching newer horror that has come out. I’ve watched a few classic horror movies and have tried to watch a few more but didn’t finish, but there are still a ton I haven’t seen.
What classic horror movies would you guys recommend I watch that would give me a good, well rounded watchlist in this genre? I’m thinking of making a list of 10-15.
Classics I’ve watched:
-The Exorcist Trilogy -The Thing -Scream movies -Pet Semetary -The Blair Witch Project

Excellent choices so far. I would recommend you add to this list the original Nightmare on Elm Street, Paranormal Activity, Halloween (the original, but 2018 is also very good), the original Night of the Living Dead, and Cabin in the Woods. Cap it all off with Shawn of the Dead for a good time if you have never seen that either.

is SAW a modern classic for horror or is that too generous?
It spawned the last true Horror icon in the form of Billy the Puppet and Jigsaw, so yeah
Definitely a classic

Is an 18 year old film still considered modern? I think after almost two decades it's probably closer to just being a horror classic More on reddit.com
The Shining turns 40. It might be a horror classic but it's also a racist and misogynistic movie.
Why is it misogynistic for a female character to be unlikeable? Why should the "rule" be different than for male characters? If a man character is seen as whiney and unlikeable, it wouldn't be considered a "thing." Should character standards differ by gender? More on reddit.com

Best Horror Movies of All Time, Ranked: Scariest Movies Ever Made - Thrillist
October 30, 2020 - Four years before Michael Myers began his Halloween night rampage, this holiday-themed tale of a stalker roaming a sorority house struck a solid chord with the midnight movie crowd—and it still holds up surprisingly well today. One cannot say the same for the 2006 remake. Watch it now on The Criterion Channel or Shudder; rent on Amazon Prime · Warner Bros. Pictures · No list of horror classics would be complete without something from Vincent Price, and this twisted 1953 chiller about a psycho who hides his murderous habits inside of life-sized human figures is one of his most enjoyably creepy.
