Same issue. It happened in almost all of my conversation at some point; the more context the more likely it happens. Sometimes if you wait enough it will eventually work. But I had 3 conversation that never worked again even after a few days retrying. I think it's not a connection issue, but rather that the context is so big that it's hard for it to be processed; it required more ressources and the "time to first token" is very big, leading to the frontend app believing there is a connection issue. That's just a guess though.

It's absolutely unusable at the moment. It has been stuck on "Starting Claude Code..." for over 5 hours. "Retry connection" does nothing. Refreshing the page does nothing. This isn't only not useful it's an actual blocker. I like to have Claude break up it's work into smaller chunks and then execute them one-by-one (sometime over the course of a few days). Now I have to continue its work because it's stuck and if it gets unstuck I have to change the plan entirely. I have to get it to pull new commits and basically start over. I really enjoy Claude Code locally in the CLI. It's funny that getting these free credits has actually made me like the product significantly less.
