Opus is not available for PRO in Claude Code, but in Claude Desktop. Max is 5x Pro. I would say: - Are you using Opus too much? - Are you using Claude code non stop all the day every day? If the above key for you ==>Then MAX If you are doing small tasks, taking time to plan correctly and like to focus on 1 task at a time, fine tune it and do you your code reviews. Use Opus on Claude Desktop (With MCP works fine). If you work that way ==> Pro 2x or 3x if needed.

Hey all,
I wanted to understand the difference in use case/ value for pro vs max.
I know max uses opus. And pro uses sonnet. I’ve seen mixed reviews about if opus is actually much better than sonnet, seems to be controversial.
In terms of use case case is there much difference in ability/outcome between the two plans if I don’t find myself hitting usage caps too often in Claude code?

Start with the cheap plan. If you hit limits (both in terms of model capability and rate limiting), upgrade - they prorate the upgrade and apply a discount based on your current plan. No need to guess in advance. You can still use opus with Claude desktop on pro, have that write plans in markdown for sonnet to execute on in CC.

You have 5X more Sonnet usage, that is the main perk. (Max 5X does not get much Opus anyway) Claude Opus is great for use cases requiring more intelligence, better written taste or better UI design taste. (community anecdotes)

It’s a no brainer. I say this time and time again. If you’re gonna use Claude for programming, use Claude Code. People who complain about results are not using CC, they are using the model in a diff IDE so it’s gimped Anthropic cooks best with their own model (think Nintendo and their first party games). They will always be ahead unless the other models get better at coding which I’m happy for, I want competition in this space lol

I canceled my Cursor subscription, stopped using Cline, and got Claude Code (Max $100), and I’m so glad I did. Not only am I getting better code, but I’m also saving a lot of money.

Hi, so i’ve been using claude code for about with pro plans for about 3 months the experiences is great. I’m curious if it is worth it to upgrade from claude $20 plan to claude $100 plan? I mainly do svelte projects for internal crud apps. I’m thinking about upgrade it to $100 plan for 1 month. But before that i want to look for other opinions before upgrade it. Thanks

I'm starting to realise that using too much AI is really impacting people's decision making ability :D Man, if you hit your subscription's limits -> upgrade. If you don't, then don't.

I did the upgrade and I'm not looking back. now I have as much time with opus as I had with sonnet. With sonnet, instead, I have unlimited messages (like, I never hit a limit anymore, there). still, my use is mild to say the least, I tend to just work with smallish apps and write short stories, so make of that what you want :)

I'm back from month hiatus of Claude Max5 Subscription and just recently re-subscribed to Pro plan to test Opus 4.5.
At first, I was laughing on how people comments and said in here that you can only prompt one Opus 4.5 and your 5-hour limit is gone until I literally experienced it. Now, I upgrade my Plan to Max5 and the usage limit difference is HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE compared to Pro Plan. It is not just 5x. So I feel like the Pro plan (This should be renamed to just "Plus" because there's no pro in this plan) is really just to test the model and Anthropic will force you to upgrade to Max.
Right now, been coding on 2 sessions simultaneously continuously using opusplan model and I'm only 57% of the 5-hour limit, reset in 1 hour.
Anyhow,
Opus 4.5 is great, the limit is higher. I'm happy but my wallet hurts. Lol

Yeah, the Pro plan usage limits are brutal, especially with Opus 4.5. I've been running Haiku for most of my work, and it's been a solid middle ground. I'm on the Pro plan ($200ish yearly), and I use Opus 4.5 only when I really need it, complex architecture decisions, tricky bugs, or when Haiku keeps missing something obvious. The ROI makes way more sense for me this way. Max5 at $200/month would need to literally 10x my productivity to justify the cost.
