>Is this also the case for N10-009? Am I good to strictly follow the exam objectives as my study guide, or should I also include A+ networking objectives in my studies as well? And is there anything else we should know or study that is not covered under the N009 exam objectives? I don't believe going outside the scope of the exam objectives is a good use of your study time. CompTIA stays very close to the objectives in their exam questions, and it would be unusual to see topics appear on the exam which are not part of those objectives. If you know everything listed in the official CompTIA Exam Objectives document for the N10-009 exam, then you shouldn't have any problem earning your Network+ certification. Good studies! N10-009 - Exam objectives are enough?

quick question about N10-008 and N10-009 exam objectives
Looking at the two sets of objectives, it seems clear that CompTIA wanted to remove some of the requirements for rote memorization. A good example are the 802.11 standards you mention, and there are indeed significant differences between what's covered in the N10-008 objectives as compared to the N10-009. However, it's useful to have a broad understanding of how wireless networks have evolved, especially if you're designing the latest generation of wireless network implementations. That's why there's a list of the major 802.11 standards with a simple description of each, but there's no detailed deep-dive into speeds, frequencies, modulation methods, and other details. If it's not in the exam objectives, then you can safely avoid memorizing it for the exam. The same thing applies to the 802.3 standards. There's also a summary of 802.3 standards included in the course, and there's a chart summarizing the 802.3 standards for 1000BASE-T, 10GBASE-T, and 1000BASE-SX in the Ethernet Standards video. Although those specific 802.3 Ethernet standards aren't listed in the exam objectives, it's useful to know the names and how they apply to real-world network configurations. It's always a challenge when a new set of exam objectives is released, especially when there's an obvious shift between the two versions. Fortunately, CompTIA tends to stick very closely to the letter of their exam objectives. If you're not sure if you need to know something, always refer back to the objectives. Creating a training course is a balancing act, and there's a lot of time spent over what specific details are included in the training course as compared to the exam objectives. I think it's good the exam isn't spending as much time on flash card memorization and more time on evaluating and resolving network issues, but I can certainly see how this might be jarring if you're comparing the two versions. Once December is here and the N10-008 is retired, we won't have the comparison and it won't be as jarring as it seems today. Good studies! More on reddit.com

Should I start studying for network + n10-008 or n10-009

You have until December of this year to take 008 if you want to take advantage of study materials that are out there now for it.

For paid resources, Dion on Udemy has moved up to 009 for his course, while Professor Messer is still using resources for 008. Professor Messer's 008 video courses are free on YouTube, but his study guide can be purchased from his website. Dion on Udemy has four sample exams that you can purchase, but you do get a sample exam with his paid course for 009.

Most of the objectives are the same between the two exams. If you can study for and take the exam before December, go for 008.

Passing either exam will still secure you the Network+ certification. Please make sure that the exam voucher you purchase matches the version of the exam you will be taking.

December 16, 2024 -

I saw people say that for N10-008 exam, just covering the exam objectives would not be enough as you were expected to know the networking related information also covered under A+

Is this also the case for N10-009? Am I good to strictly follow the exam objectives as my study guide, or should I also include A+ networking objectives in my studies as well? And is there anything else we should know or study that is not covered under the N009 exam objectives?

May 9, 2025 - It’s useful to refer to the objectives as a checklist of study topics. Once you pass any single Network+ exam, you are officially CompTIA Network+ certified. The version of the exam is not part of the certification credential, so someone who passes the N10-008 exam, the N10-009 exam, or any previous version of the Network+ exam, earns the same Network+ certification.
