I just applied online for the Chase Sapphire preferred card and got instantly rejected. I thought there was no way I would be denied and I would like to know if I am missing something.
I have 1 credit card open, 2 debit cards, and 1 auto loan (~$7,000 left).
795 credit score
~15% credit utilization
Never missed a payment on credit card, utilities, or auto loan
I earn ~$120,000 a year and my rent is $1,000
I am 25 years old and had the credit card I have now for ~5 years.
Am I missing something because I feel totally surprised I was denied.
Edit: I forgot I also have about $5,000 in student loans left and I used to have a discover student credit card for 4 years but closed it since I moved to another country after graduation and discover isn't accepted there plus they don't use credit cards there much anyway.

According to credit karma I have a 698 TransUnion score and 692 Equifax score. I have a 758 FICO score according to Credit Wise. I pay the balance every month 100%. The only credit card I have opened is Capital One Quicksilver and I have had it for 1 year and 6 months. My income is about $50k. But the issue is it has a $400 credit limit… I have asked for an increase about 3 or 4 times and they have only given it to me once, from $300 to $400. I think my utilization hurts me since my limit is so low. Still trying to figure this out. I just got an invitation in the mail to apply for the Chase Freedom Unlimited with +1.5% to existing benefits for the first year but I wanted to know why my luck would be with this one. Thanks!
Hello everyone! I hope you're all having a great day.
I'm considering applying for the Chase Sapphire Preferred (CSP) card, but I'm unsure if I meet the qualifications. I'd really appreciate any advice you could offer.
Here's my current financial situation:
FICO Scores:
Experian: 700 (recently dropped 22 points after paying off my auto loan) Equifax: 716
VantageScores:
Experian: 735 Equifax: 740 TransUnion: 738
Credit Cards:
American Express Gold (opened July 2023) Chase Freedom Rise (opened September 2023) with a $5,000 credit limit (initially $1,000, automatically increased after 6 months)
Other Accounts:
Auto loan (paid off and closed)
Income: Approximately $30,000
I also maintain Chase checking and savings accounts with a combined balance exceeding $10,000.
As an international student, my credit history is relatively short (oldest account: 1 year, 1 month). This limited history makes me concerned about my approval odds. I'm aware that the CSP has a minimum credit limit of $5,000, which further reduces my confidence given my $30,000 income.
Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much for your time, and I hope you all have a wonderful day!
