I should add that we have 1 acre of land that is mostly flat except for a drainage gully and mole holes/hills. I've been known to accidentally mow over the occasional garden hose or tool that's been left in tall grass so that's one thing to consider we are a little hard on mowers. Ease of maintenance is another important factor to us and we noticed the oil filter and stuff if more difficult to reach on the hustler than the cub cadet. Is that something other people have issues with? Thanks again. More on reddit.com

I bought a ZT1 42” in Feb. It has the Kawasaki motor and the fab deck. It’s been amazing this season. Fast, easy to drive, starts easily and cuts beautifully. I added the mulch kit and the hour meter. Would definitely recommend the mower. I know it’s MTD, but like so? I mean it’s a really good and well-built product, and the only negative I ever hear is it’s MTD. ¯\(ツ)/¯ Last mower I had was an MTD too and I never had any issues with it. I did buy from a dealer based on opinions from here, but haven’t yet seen any benefits from it, other than the staff actually knowing a lot about the products they sell. That was super nice. At a big box you’re 100% on your own. The dealer wants me to bring it in for a pretty pricey service yearly, but they’ve made changing the oil on these so easy and everything is so accessible, I’m probably just gonna keep doing it myself. Did the break-in oil change earlier this year at 14 hours and it took like 10 min. Anyway, my opinion is that it’s a great mower for a homeowner. I mow a little under an acre but I double/triple mow, and I’m very happy with mine. I try to buy good stuff that will last and I take care of it. I don’t have several acres, I don’t abuse it, and I don’t use it every day to make a living, so no need for a commercial used one or more fancy one for me. I could go on, but you get the gist I think.

Hi All,
Selling my 2007 cub cadet and looking at a local dealer. Two I have my eye on is:
Toro Timecutter 50" with 23hp kawasaki engine 10 gauge fab deck
Cub Cadet ZT1 50" with same 23hp kawasaki engine 11 gauge deck
Both are relatively the same cost out the door. I've always had good luck with cub cadet, but wanted to gather some opinions. Are there much of a difference between the deck systems or component quality/cost I should be considering?
Strictly look at a comparison between these two - Hard limit of $4k spend on a zero turn and would like knew since i've had bad luck buying used in the past even with low hours (hard to tell what it's been through).
Yard is relatively flat except it's a ranch walk out basement so there is one hill portion in the yard.

If you want longevity spend more on a commercial or prosumer brand with thicker gauge steel. 4K is entry level and those Kawasaki engines will outlive the rest of the mower. A scag liberty Z is 1,000x better than what you’re looking at currently and it’s $5500 and will last MUCH longer. A similar Kubota is $5,000.
