Hey Seth. · I’d just make sure the electrical connections between the battery, solenoid and starter are sound, and the battery is fully charged. If the key switch won’t start it, and your jumping the solenoid won’t either, then it’s almost sure the problem is with the starter. Sometimes the gear that engages the flywheel is made of plastic, and it wears over time, requiring replacement of the gear only, instead of the whole starter. Either way, the starter removal and installation is fairly straight forward and simple (don’t forget to remove the ground from the battery before you start). · Good Luck. r/lawnmowers on Reddit: Cub cadet just does a click and won’t start
January 4, 2024 -
I have a cub cadet SLX54 and after pulling it out from the winter it just does a single click when I try the key. Things I’ve done:
1-charged the battery on the bench with charger. 2- tried the repair feature of the charger 3- replaced the starter solenoid
Still nothing. Battery shows 12 volts with tester. Could it be the starter? For context, it has about 300 hours on it. I do get an oil warning on the tiny display but the oil looks good and it low. Any ideas?

my cub cadet wont start just clicks | My Tractor Forum
End result...found the hot lead to the electronic ignition and used a thicker gauge wire and rewired from the ignition module directly to the hot lead of the battery and bypassed the old wire in their cabling harness, Easily fix just time consuming. I used a much heavier gauge wire...probably 14 or 12. Mower starts every time now and no more clicks, noises or start clunks!

Click sound, but does not turn over - Cub Cadet LT1050 | My Tractor Forum
Very weird, but if I pull the red 12v cable connection from the starter and turn the key, there is 12V on the wire, but when I put the cable back on the starter and turn the key there is zero volts. Sounds like a ground wiring problem maybe? Solenoid seems to be good because it clicks and there is 12V on the cable that goes to the starter.

I have always covered my positive battery posts and cable connectors with white lithium grease to prevent corrosion, so I never suspected that would be the problem. But it was. I pulled off the positive cable, cleaned it off, brushed it off with a wire brush, reconnected it to the battery, and the mower started right up. Just dumb on my part not to start with the basics.
