3 weeks ago - Cubans (Spanish: Cubanos) are the citizens and nationals of Cuba. The Cuban people have varied origins with the most spoken language being Spanish. The larger Cuban diaspora includes individuals that trace ancestry to Cuba and self-identify as Cuban but are not necessarily Cuban by citizenship.

Cubans are gregarious, friendly people. They will talk to just about anyone, and seem to spend the majority of their days in the company of others. Walking down the street in Cuba, you’ll see people sitting outside their homes talking to neighbors.

July 8, 2020 - We found Cubans to be very open to everything from a bit of a chat to deep and meaningful conversations about life in Cuba. Either way, we loved meeting each and every one of the people we talked to, even the ones who wanted something from us.

December 16, 2020 - Most people think that Cuba is a struggling, communist country, full of bad people and no money. Technology is old and the cars are ugly. United States citizens can’t even get in without special permission from the government. To me, however, Cuba is a beautiful, special country that gives me a lot of freedom and lets me have independence to do whatever I want without worrying about my safety.

May 29, 2024 - On the first day, I would have asked why she was sitting there, but as I learned quickly, people just enjoy sitting on their door steps. Sometimes, they talk to neighbors, sometimes they just sit and watch and enjoy the cooler afternoon air outside. This lovely girl (whose name, sadly escapes me) was my host in Havana. I came to a hostel/house owned by her brother. He didn’t have a spare bed, so he told me to go upstairs where there would be room. I didn’t learn Carlos was her brother until the day before I left Cuba.

I spent my days in Cuba wandering the cobbled streets on foot and in the backs of 1950s Chevys turned public taxis, listening to Cubans of all walks of life generously share their opinions and stories, their frustrations and passions. The nurse who makes $40 per month and the taxi driver who makes $40 per day.
