Just completed my custom built fire pit!
Built a wood burning fire pit in the backyard set on top of decomposed granite. Do we need to put anything in the bottom? Or can we burn wood right on decomposed granite?

Custom Fire Pit
Seems like it'd be a fucking pain every time you need to put more wood on.

Hi all!!
I wanted to share with you my success and improvement story from constructing a custom built fire pit and essentially creating an aesthetically pleasing and functional outdoor room.
Also, I’ve gotta say thank you so much for being a resource and for the tidbits of advice you have given me over the past few months on laying pavers, which materials to use for the fire pit, and other little Q’s!
A couple of final touches that I plan on are getting string lights on hooks, putting container plants in the corners, putting rectangle sitting pads down, and building wooden foot rests to pull out from under the benches that will double as little seats closer to fire with a smaller group or smaller fire.
Feel free to let me know what you think and if anyone has questions :)
