Hear me out, but I got a fancy pants inflatable double height king mattress a few years ago and it's legit as comfortable as any mattress I've ever owned. I was skeptical because I grew up with the crappy dorm-style inflatable mattresses where you wake up on the floor and I am a terrible princess-and-the-pea sleeper with a gnarly form of degenerative arthritis. I bit the bullet when I needed something I could take up to our yurt in the mountains so I'd be able to sleep comfortably if I was going to stay a couple days. It's great. It's nice and tall, can inflate to a good firmness (I love a firm mattress) and can withstand enthusiastic...activity. If I had it set up in my home, I'd probably get an extra-long bed-skirt just for aesthetics, but even with regular sheets, blankets, and duvet, it looks nice enough to where I wouldn't feel embarrassed at all to have my guests see it. I'm looking for a BIFL daybed that can be converted into a king sized bed by pulling out the trundle portion or the trundle can be used as a seperate twin. Storage drawers would be an awesome bonus but not necessary.
IKEA seems to be the only place that even really does day beds but I know their beds can be iffy. Bed would be for family kids to sleep on, or an adult guest bed if needed which is why I like the two twin/king bed idea but mostly will be used as a sofa/reading spot in my office. Also considering a futon but that would only be one bed and also not bifl.
Failing bifl standards, has anyone made one and have suggestions for where I could get plans to build my own?

Late post, but im doing it for the archives and google searchers. I have looked at every corner of the internet and spent 2 weeks nonstop looking at daybeds for my guest room. Birch Lane (higher end brand of Wayfair) is the ONLY strong solid wood day bed I found w trundle (unless you spend $$$$ w an Amish store). The SKU is CDCH1056. It's weight capacity is something like 700 lbs for the bed and 300 lbs for the trundle. Pricey at around $8-900 but again, it's the only bed you can find online boasting that weight capacity. Everything else is flimsy fake wood. I also liked that the bed can take 10" thick mattresses while the other flimsy daybeds only took 8". Good luck

For what it’s worth, I have the IKEA hemnes day bed and it feels very sturdy. Unless the people planning to sleep on it weigh more than (let’s say) 200 lbs, then I feel like it will last for a long time. I’m sure it’s rated for more weight, but it might not last as long if someone built like a linebacker is sleeping on it every night. I hope that makes sense.

Looking for some high quality recommendations for an alternative guest room bed that saves space and where guests will ACTUALLY want to sleep. It needs to be able to sleep 2 adults. The bed is going into my office space and I'd like something that can be easily tucked away into a small daybed, sofabed, or possibly even a low profile Murphy bed cabinet (nothing too tall because it's going in front of a window). When the bed is in use, there is room to expand into a king size bed but it would be taking up majority of the room aside from my desk.
I have a loose budget of around $1k, but will definitely pay more for extra comfort so that my guests are happy to stay! I've been considering a daybed situation that expands into a king and buying a separate king size mattress topper. Just looking for more recommendations because many products I'm finding online just don't look comfortable!

I'd love to also find similar day bed type solution. We have queen guest bed now that takes over whole room. We do use room once in blue moon if one of us is sick so I'd like it to be "ready to sleep" one all the time but able to accommodate two guests when necessary. There are some interesting Murphy bed options but hard to spend that kind of money when you don't know quality.
