this has been a shit show since 4.6 came out. they used the same msi code for 4.6 that 4.5 had when all previous versions had a unique msi code. it almost feels like the person who was working on dc u prior to 4.6 is no longer at dell and the new guy working on the project has no idea what he's doing. dcu wua has always been awful with it's modern application, it just won't show up in the start menu if it's installed during osd. 5.7 has only just been released, so noone can really say. But they'll both deliver the same drivers and updates, so nothing will really change. The security issues are more to do with vulnerabilities with the app itself, and that should be worth updating for. More on reddit.com

There is BOTH a traditional Win32 application and Universal Installer for version 4.6. There is ONLY a Universal Installer for version 4.7. Installing the 32-bit 4.6 version will install the application into: "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Dell\CommandUpdate\" Installing the Universal 4.6/4.7 version will install the application into: "%ProgramFiles%\Dell\CommandUpdate\" At the time of this post, the 4.7 version appears to have been pulled by Dell. Earlier this week my test device updated DCU to 4.7 UWP from DCU 4.6 Classic (apparently Classic is being retired and clients moved to the UWP version). Today I have come to download the installer and I find that the download has been removed from Dell. I am currently on about 50/50 endpoints self-upgraded. Does anyone know what has happened?

Not sure if this is why but at least on some of my clients it seems to update/install and shows installed in add/remove programs. The CLI also exists in program files. But the UWP GUI seems to not install/not found in start menu search... It could also be something wrong with the way I'm installing it :)

I use Dell Command Update to install updates on my Dell XPS DA16260.
Officially—according to my service tag—Dell recommends DCU version 5.4.0, A00

However, there is a universal, significantly newer version: 5.7.0, A00

They don’t recommend 5.4. for your device - they did just not update the site of your device for this specific tool.

Here’s how mine is setup. It’s an Application in MDT then added as a step in my task sequence.
