So as the title states I'm doing research for a natural gas fire pit. I have a gas line for my pool heater near where I want to build the fire pit so I planned on extending this for the fire pit (my BIL is a plumber so he would help with gas piping). After looking into it, it seems way more expensive to build my own with landscape blocks, purchase a burner table, burner controls, burner than to just by one already assembled. Am I going about this wrong?

I’m well over a thousand dollars and this isn’t even including the rocks to fill the pan, material for gas pipe, etc. Anyone have experience with this?

When we moved into our house the previous owners had built a fire pit off to the side of the house. When it cooled off I decided to move it. I grabbed the first brick and it crumbles into dust. I soon realized they used no fire bricks and no pan. When I tried to throw it away the garbage man said they wouldn't take it. I had to throw out a couple bricks at a time for over a year.

Converting propane fire pit to natural gas fire pit
Have you tried researching your particular pit for this question? In general you’re right, propane is heavier than air and will settle where as natural gas wants to dissipate up into the surrounding atmosphere. While you should be ok with your setup, I would recommend identifying your pit by make and model if possible and researching the specifics for it when converting. More on reddit.com

August 24, 2024Trying to build a gas fire pit, can't find a reasonably priced burner.
Reason it's expensive, its made of 304 stainless steel. It will last outside and you won't have to replace every year or two. It wont get clogged and it is made to look like a firepit. I sold these at my last company and it really is the way to go if you want it to last but there are much better options that still keep cost down and simplify everything. If it was my project, I would used a stainless steel outdoor fire ring, connect with a dante key valve for shut off with flex lines to connect them. Add a spark igniter made for a grill that is battery powered. And build a base from stone brick and cover. the holes in the burner need to face down! Otherwise they will clog or get filled with water. Also keep in mind the gas type as you want a yellow flame and not blue. Turkey Fryers are made for heat and not looks they mix the air differently. Price should be: SS Firering $70-$90 depending on size, Dante Valve $25ish, Igniter Kit $25ish This way you do it right once and it will last. More on reddit.com
