V15s Submarine Complete Vacuum versus Gen5detect complete vacuum
If you have hard floors / tile that you Swiffer or mop ( or If you have aspirations of doing so ) then having the option to clean the floors with the submarine head essentially doubles the utility of your vacuum. I clean the floors weekly with my v15. My floor plan is ~1300 sq feet fifty-fifty carpet and hard flooring. I’m able to dust, vacuum, and mop the whole floorplan on one charge in around 20 minutes. I empty the vacuum once, add a bit more water, and dump the water from the catch basin. The Gen5 has a more powerful motor , has a larger dust bin and is heavier. The button on top does help out. Though you’re probably sacrificing a bit of battery life since It’s more likely the vacuum will be left running when moving between rooms or other times where your finger would be off the trigger. Though both vacuums will tire your wrist and you will end up switching arms once or twice. That’s the bigger ergonomic problem. The extra dusting brush, gap tool, and extension hose that come with the Gen5 look really useful( especially the hose) but can be purchased after the fact for the v15, while it’s not possible to use the submarine attachment on the Gen5. I borrowed a friend’s Gen5 before deciding on getting my v15. I got the v15 on the hope that I would use the mopping attachment frequently which thankfully I was able to build the habit to use.  I have high pile carpet and rugs, so for both the Gen5 and v15 I had to vacuum those with the gates fully open and ensure I don’t press the head down too forcefully otherwise the brush motor stalled. The Gen5 did this more often than the v15, which I would attribute to the added power. I’m still shocked by the amount of dust picked up each week haha. Ultimately you are getting a good vacuum and pretty house toy either way, enjoy your selection! More on reddit.com

r/dyson on Reddit: V15s Submarine Complete Vacuum versus Gen5detect complete vacuum
November 27, 2024 -

My partner and I are choosing between these two vacuum sets. The price difference is quite minimal (~5%) due to Black Friday deals.

We would love some advice on which one to choose given the V15s has a hard floor washing head too.

ModelPrice
V15s Submarine Complete Vacuum (gold HEPA edition)$999
Gen5Detect Complete Vacuum (Prussian blue and rich copper edition)$1049

Below are a comparison of what comes in the package:

V15s Submarine Complete Vacuum (gold HEPA edition) Gen5Detect Complete Vacuum (Prussian blue and rich copper edition)

Based on what I can see, there is a around a 5% price difference between these two but the v15s has a wet roller head option.

Gen5Detect is the newest model with no wet roller head.

What's your advice and what would you choose?

Any feedback on your experience with these two models is appreciated too.

The Dyson v15 is great :) But the washing head is not what you probably think it is . The head is mainly designed to clean up liquids, it’s annoying having to pick the crumbs and hair of the brush bar constantly on the wet head . The V15 also has a trigger you have to constantly hold The Gen 5 has a built in crevice tool which is great and a little better battery life . The Gen 5 has no trigger but only a button to click on then click off Both great vacuums but I’ll go for the Gen 5. Good luck and happy Vacuuming Edit - the newer V15 do have built in crevice tools

r/VacuumCleaners on Reddit: Dyson V15 detect submarine vs Shark Hydrovac
February 9, 2025 -

I recently moved into my new house, and one of the things I haven't bought yet is a good vacuum cleaner. I have been looking into both the Dyson V15 Detect Submarine and the Shark Hydrovac, but I don't know much about which one is better. From the price, I can expect the Dyson to be much better, but I just don't know if the brand is just overhyped.

I'm not really sure about the vacuum cleaner + mop thing, I think it could be very convenient, but maybe someone here knows they're not worth it at all and suggest me to go to a regular vacuum and forget about the mop thing (which would also be okay).

One thing I like about the shark (apart from the huge price tag difference) is that there is a corded version: I'm not a big fan of having to charge the battery every time, and my house is big enough to not be able to clean it all in one single charge.

Any suggestions on whether the mop thing is a good idea? Maybe an alternative option that I haven't considered? Thanks a lot!

Note: Whilst I don't mind it to be corded, I draw a line to the "sled vacuums". Unless it's THE ONE vacuum I will ever need and want which happens to be a sled one, I'd rather it be handheld.

Vacuum-mops like the Hydrovac and Crosswave are a pain to clean. After each use you must wash and dry the 2 tanks, clean the brushroll, clean the filter, and wipe down the machine. Vac-mops cannot vacuum on carpets and have no hose or attachments to clean anything else but hard floors. There are easier to use mops like reusable spray mops, steam mops, and spin mops. The Dyson V15 Submarine is stupid expensive and the Submarine is a very limited mop. The Submarine is a type of spinning mop with no suction. Unlike the vac-mops you must dry vacuum with V15 first and then use the Submarine mop head. In most markets you can buy a regular Dyson V15 and a vac-mop for less than the cost of a V15 Submarine. I highly recommend getting a regular corded or cordless vacuum and pairing it with a good mop of your choice. If you have any carpeted rooms you really need a corded vacuum to properly deep clean the carpet. Cordless vacuums are ok for hard floors and light cleaning rugs and carpets. What kind of flooring do you have? If you have all hard floors you could get a corded vac-mop like the Bissell Crosswave if you don't mind the all the cleanup, but I would still recommend getting a regular vacuum to dry vacuum the floors and everything else.

Should you buy the Dyson WashG1 or the Dyson V15s Detect Submarine?
October 1, 2024 - It’s difficult to compare these two Dyson models by weight or accessories because they’re such completely different products. For example, although the Submarine is lighter at 4.1kg than the WashG1 at 4.9kg, the WashG1’s weight is much less important. It’s motorised, which makes it very manoeuvrable, and it bears its own weight on the floor. You’ll only need to lift it to carry it over carpet or rugs or up or down the stairs. Meanwhile, the V15s Detect Submarine is fairly heavy for a cordless vacuum cleaner, although it’s also motorised in its wet cleaning mode.
