It makes sense to me that the show was not renewed and everyone only just found out about it. I don’t believe MPK’s ridiculous statement that they made the decision when they were writing it and finished it with intention. This season hasn’t been written like a final season. They wasted so much time on Aidan, fumbled around with attempts at character development that are not yet complete, and have tried to introduce new plots just in the latest episode. It has also reeked of desperation, something I’ve been saying for awhile. They have piled on the cameos and the callbacks to SATC, and have tried to lean in to the hate watching. When HBO pretended to be in on the joke about Aidan coming across like a horror movie villain that looked like a last ditch attempt to hang on to the hate watchers, and also showed that the studio had abandoned support of the show’s production team. It was funny, but also so embarrassing that they acknowledged their desperation. The cast have done so much more promotion of this season than previous ones, further trying to sure up viewership. MPK’s statement is his and the team’s typical self aggrandisement and gaslighting. Their whole writers podcast is the same thing, and the show consistently gaslights us. They gaslit us about LTW’s father and about Carrie not agreeing to exclusivity, just in recent episodes. They claim everything they have done with the show is brilliant and the people criticizing it are all stupid. They fawn over themselves endlessly and refuse to acknowledge any issues. His claim is just more of that. I also don’t believe that they wouldn’t have told Cynthia and Kristin, who are both EPs on this one and have some creative control, nor that, if it was decided to be the final season, people on the show wouldn’t have figured it out. This might just be my delusional mind but I have a feeling Gavin keeps mentioning "friendship" as the basis of Belly and Jer's relationship bc ultimately, even though the wedding is called off and they break up, they'll still always be best friends and have that friendship to come back to!
