Why has Billy Crystal stayed away from the show?
He popped up to do a cameo with Vanessa, I think during her last season. Kind of a lame bit, he played Jacob's dad. More on reddit.com

Quotes - You look mahvelous!
"It is better to look good than to feel good" isn't a quote from Kim Kardashian—it's a quote from Lorenzo Lamas's father, Fernando Lamas, who was parodied by Billy Crystal during his time on Saturday Night Live.

Ricardo Montleban -- Gene's vs. Billy Crystal's
Post by Lola Billy Crystal's Ricardo just pales in my opinion. Isn't the Billy Crystal character called Fernando? I think it's a satire of Fernando Lamas.

PopRedux80: "You Look Marvelous" by Billy Crystal
May 16, 2018 - Trivia: Crystal's Fernando character was so strong that for many younger fans of the show, they didn't realize it was based on a real person - actor Fernando Lamas. For those who were familiar with Lamas, it made the sketch even funnier. Originally from Buenos Aires, Lamas was an actor who ...

Billy Crystal’s Winning Season
February 7, 2025 - Fernando Lamas, deeply brown and gallantly dressed, sat down one night on The Tonight Show and, slightly skewing the vowels toward Spanish, told Johnny Carson, “You know, it is better to look good than to feel good.” · For Billy Crystal, that was the starting point: he made up an unctuous ...

Feeding Fernando Lamas – (Travalanche)
January 15, 2025 - I imagine I first knew about Fernando Lamas (Fernando Álvaro Lamas y de Santos, 1915-1982) by way of his being kidded on Saturday Night Live — no less than twice. The first occasion was the 1979 sketch starring Bill Murray as a Latin American game show who asks contestants the immortal question “¿Quién es Más Macho?” and Lamas’ name, along with those of Ricardo Montalban, Lloyd Bridges, et al are multiple choice answers. Then in 1984, Billy Crystal took it up a notch by playing the actor in a recurring segment called Fernando’s Hideaway, presenting the old ham as a superficial celebrity hound whose catchphrases were “You look mahvelous” and “It’s better to look good than to feel good.” Prior to both those bits, Lamas had already parodied himself in Neil Simon’s The Cheap Detective (1978).
