You should never hire an FA for performance. You should hire them for comprehensive planning (tax planning, distribution strategies, retirement income analysis, estate concerns, etc.). If they aren’t doing all of that for you, what are you paying for? Edit: to clarify, anyone down playing the value of an advisor is an idiot. Most people (including those here) should be paying an advisor. Just make sure you’re getting real value from it. Answer from yerrmomgoes2college on reddit.com

r/investing on Reddit: Anyone using Fisher Investments and feel like it's worth it?
August 16, 2024 -

I've (52M) been talking with a Fisher rep for awhile, I've been through the analysis process, and they make a fairly compelling case that, net fees, they could improve my returns 4 to 5%.

I'm skeptical, but I'm also a "set it and forget" it investor, about 10% bonds, 50% VOO, 10% VTI/small cap, and the rest in target date funds.

My portfolio is a little unbalanced and spread over a bunch of accounts I've accumulated over the years. Overweight in some areas, underweight in others. I could consolidate and balance, but I hate to think I'm leaving money on the table with a mostly hands off approach. Hoping to semi-retire in 10 years.

Anyone using Fisher, or other similar firm, and feel it's worth the fees?

EDIT: Fisher fee is 1.25. Most of my ETFs are .03 to .1

Am I making a mistake with Fisher Investments?
I don’t know anything about Fisher so I won’t comment on them. But what I will tell you is that if you suffer from analysis paralysis the data says you will perform worse than someone who paid an advisor a % and didn’t micromanage their portfolio. DIY is great and cheap but it works best for people who can set up a plan and stick to it without emotion. You’ve self described you are not that person. More on reddit.com

Thoughts on Fisher Investments?
Your one-stop shop to discuss personal finance within Canada. ... My investable portfolio has recently crossed the $1mm mark. I've been "managing" the portfolio myself mostly, with investments held at DFS (RRSP matching program with work), NestWealth and WealthSimple Trade. I've been wondering if I could/should explore some other options now that I've entered into what might be considered HNWI territory. Any thoughts on Fisher ... More on reddit.com

Fisher Investments Canada reviews why getting in early isn’t a necessity - The Globe and Mail
April 4, 2025 - Many people approach investing with this kind of mentality, equating investing success with finding the next high-growth opportunity – such as artificial intelligence – getting in early and reaping massive returns as it booms. We understand the appeal of that idea, but Fisher Investments Canada’s reviews of market history show successful long-term investing doesn’t rely on getting into the next big investment early.

4 weeks ago - I have been making my own investment decisions for many years and have built up a mid-six-figure fortune as a result. I have been in sporadic contact with Fisher Investments for several years, but now I want to use my assets as retirement income. There were several phone calls and webinars, and I wanted specific information about the total management costs and asked for a real sample portfolio.

Stories of investors reaping big gains by entering a booming investing trend early abound — things like generative artificial intelligence (AI), renewable energy technology, the internet, personal computing or what have you. r/PersonalFinanceCanada on Reddit: Am I making a mistake with Fisher Investments?
March 10, 2025 -

So I have a RRSP with Sunlife which was in a bunch of random funds, it's accumulated to about 500k, then last month with the weird market I moved it all to government bonds to "protect" it. The funds were all equity based and US growth - I'm 49. Don't plan to retire anytime soon.

I can contribute the max RRSP amount every year for as long as I'm working (don't plan to retire until at least 65.. I like what I do) I don't really want to do any major research into funds etc I tend to get caught up in analysis/paralysis , but also I don't want to put the funds into something that costs % every year going to "professionals" whether they grow or shrink. I filled in a form online (while researching) and Fisher called the next day, they did a nice job of telling me how they can help me reach my goals and it was all pretty slick.. but then later I read some less good things about how their founder made some sexist comments 😮 told my wife who is less than impressed..

People talk about various funds xeqt? or something seems like a popular place to park money for growth. Looking for a "balance" but growth orientated option where I can just contribute and not think about what is happening with the ignorance of I have but peace of mind the rrsp will be growing relatively safely..

thanks for any thoughts
