Is there a way to get a completely free domain that doesn’t add anything to the webpage when accessed?
I tried No-IP, but when I enable "mask URL," it adds an ugly frame to the end of the webpage, which I don’t want.
So, is there any way to get one? I don’t mind if the URL ends up being random.
<FULL DISCLOSURE> I am a newby when it comes to anything web design related but I am learning. I don't quite understand the concepts of things like a domain name, subdomain, website hosting, etc. But I am still in the infant stage of creating a new business with very limited funds. The fact of the matter is I need a business website with a domain or possibly a subdomain registered. Is there any truly FREE options for this? I am quite sure that the premium version of this same thing comes with many useful features and most will encourage me to go ahead and spend the money to get it but I simply do not have the funds for this. Not today. I fully intend to upgrade to the premium as soon as there is a profit from my business but right now there simply is no room in the very limited budget for this particular thing. Any advice/suggestions on this matter are openly welcomed. If anyone has a little time to chat about it feel free to message me if you prefer. Thanks in advance for your help
Back in 2020 obtained a free .ml domain from freenom, and it worked really well. I just went to sue freenom again and found that it, along with dot.tk is now defunct.
Listen, I get that lots of people say that i am being cheap an i should just buy one from cloudflare or name cheap for a few bucks, but i dont want to hear from those people. I simply want to know if there is any currently functioning alternativelys to freenom that will provide you with a completely free domain nme without need for a payment method,
THX,
Milo
Soo basicaly i have a phython server made in flask and i tought It Will be great if i get a domain for this and soo where i can register a free domain? (I wanted initialy pay a paid domain but godaddy says Who Is worth 1.256 dollars and modrinth unfortunalty doesn't make enough Money for paying that)
I know they probably don't exist but l litteraly have 37 cents right now.
[EDIT] :: I ended up going with OVHCloud. They have a very low domain order price and the renewal is also very cheap.
[EDIT 2] :: After OVHCloud denied access to my account (I just couldn't log in), I went with namecheap and got myself a .net domain. Additionally I registered a few .eu.org domains from nic.eu.org
Howdy r/selfhosted community!
I'm looking for a cheap / free domain name registrar. Here is a list of registrars I DON'T want to use:- Namecheap (I just personally don't like them. You can try selling me to them.) Read edit, Google Domains (Not available in my country.), Domain ORG (They aren't really cheap plus they offer useless services with the domain), Freenom (Currently doesn't work. It doesn't work for about 4 months now), MyGA, dotTK or any other Freenom API powered registrars. (Since freenom doesn't work), Free / paid subdomains (I'm looking for a domain which I am fully in control of.)
Keep in mind I only want the domain! No protection, certificate, hosting or any other service provided by the registrar. I HAVE a server at home and don't need any hosting. I know that GitHub offers subdomains but as I said earlier, no no. I also want to be in full control of the domain. By full I mean complete control over anything related with the domain.
Basically, I want to be able to set the nameservers to Cloudflare and control it there. My budget (currently) is: 1€/month or 10€/year | 1.06USD/month or 10.58USD/year
Thanks in advance. Happy selfhosting :)
I am broke to oblivion roast me all you want but I am not paying for a domain. What are some sites that have sort of professional looking codomains that I can get for free.
Ecwid has a good one .company.site and I want something similar if yall know any
Thank you for your time
Is there any free and reliable way to get a domain name, I figured that I would host my website with github pages but I can't figure out how to get a custom url for my website, I'm sure theres a simple answer that I'm somehow missing.
Edit: I now have the free domain @ www.lixxxeyslagoon.tk, check it out in the future if you'd like and dm me with bits of advice while I learn git and github
There is a way to get a free domain really for free? And that dont have any thing in the web when accessed?
I try noip, but, if i put "enable mask url" then noip put a horrible frame at the end of the webpage. I dont want that.
So, there is a way to get one? i dont matter if the url is afjhdalsfjhdslajkf.fdsafjañ.tk
or whatever.
Merhaba,
I would like to get a free domain. I don't really care about the ending.
I just want not to be registered under another provider (so no subdomain), i.e. I don't want a domain like nameformywebsite.provider.com but simply nameformywebsite.com (or .to, .info,...).
Does anyone know more about this? Experiences?
If possible, how do you get it?
When you register a domain name at a website, what actually happens? Is your site stored in their server? Where is your site stored?
yes, you can get .me domain for year for free - https://education.github.com/pack
Your site and your domain name are two different things. Your site is the files that are stored on a server and sent to the user whenever they request them. These servers don't actually advertise what the domain is though and most have actual internet addresses like 928.11.11.102 Think of that like your physical address. However, no one can remember that server address and so we created domain names. They are stored in domain servers. When a user puts google.com in their browser, it first checks with a domain server and says "where is this domain stored?" The domain server responds by saying the server address and the browser redirects to find the files stored there. So think of that like a phone number. You don't have to remember the physical address of a house to call it, just the phone number and a switchboard (DNS server) redirects your phone call to the physical address. When you buy a domain, you've reserved the "phone number", but you need to tell it where your address (hosting server) is so it can redirect users to the host. Most hosting solutions offer free domain registration since the solution is almost worthless without a domain.
Edit: oh and to answer the topic. There's no such thing as getting an off the shelf free domain name registration that I've ever heard of. It usually costs like $5-$20 per year depending on what kind of domain it is.
The name itself could be completely gibberish, but I'd like a real "playground" where I can improve my coding skills!
EDIT: I've followed your combination of advice and got a free .tk domain and used 000webhost to host it. Everything should go smoothly, but 000webhost is having some internal issues at the moment. Either way, thank you all!
EDIT 2: With 000webhost down (and seeing bad things about this company), I followed up with Netlify and... my first website is up!
Netlify, GitHub Pages, Heroku, Firebase...
There are options for free domains available as well, such as freenom.com which allow the option for free .tk domains (as well as others too I believe). Great for a playground. PLENTY if guides on Google for installing and setting up personal web server, with SSL and more. Plus it's fun.
I honestly don't really care what the domain's gonna be, just want to host a free site for my hobby
Edit: Freenom doesn't work at all. Shows everything as not available, even something like djksnsbsbhhhbbb666688 Same thing with .tk Any other options you know about?
Thanks in advance
I'm a 16 year old photographer and I make my money through weddings and portraits. Right now I get around 1 wedding per month and even less portraits, so I'm looking into building a website, and buying a domain. I'm young and I don't know a lot about this stuff, if I buy the domain for £20/ year, do I also get the email? How do I use the email?? Or do I have to go through Google to host it? And for the website I'm looking at wix, but I can't afford the 15/month for wix and also the 25/month for Google, not until I get more clients.. Can someone give me the step by step to get the domain, the email, and build a website for less than £30/month, or is that just not possible?
edit: thanks for all the answers, sorry if I don't reply to them all but I am reading them and writing down the info, thanks :)
edit 2: solved! I've gone through Google workspace starter, £5/month (you have to sign up for the business plus, and then change subscription). I went through Google for the storage and email hosting. I'm making the site with Google sites, but in the future I'll head over to wix or squarespace.
I now own tysphotostash.com and hopefully this is the start of a successful business? (check it out if you want but it's all over the place ATM)
There are lots of places to register domain names out there; literally thousands of registrars. The "best" may mean different things depending on who you ask.
I can speak for myself and from my own experience: As of 2025, NameCheap and Spaceship are my two favorite domain registrars. I've been using NameCheap for many years, but I recently started registering some of my domains at Spaceship, which has lower renewal rates and better interface.
The following are some other considerable registrars alongside my thoughts on each:
| Registrar | .com registration | .com renewal | Commentary |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spaceship | $8.88 | $9.98 | Spaceship is the cheapest domain registrar I use and highly recommend if you are looking to make bulk domain purchases. They offer cheap email and web hosting as well. |
| NameCheap | $11.28 | $16.98 | NameCheap offers a good balance between cost, features and support. This has been my all-time favorite domain registrar for many years. |
| Dynadot | $10.86 | $10.86 | I have a few domains at Dynadot and it's one of the reliable registrars in my book. Support is responsive, renewal rates are lower than NameCheap's, and they offer a free email account with each domain. |
| Cloudflare | $10.44 | $10.44 | Cloudflare has the lowest renewal rates (mostly) but comes with some drawbacks: you can't change nameservers, and support is not available without a premium subscription. |
| Porkbun | $11.06 | $11.06 | Porkbun is one of top recommendations on Reddit favored for its low prices and good service. Personally, I don't like their branding, and their web hosting plans aren't that interesting. |
| GoDaddy | $10.99 | $21.99 | GoDaddy is the biggest domain registrar in the world, but it has high renewal prices and lots of upselling. Not the best bang for your buck. |
| NameSilo | $17.29 | $17.29 | I've had an overall satisfactory experience with NameSilo, but they recently hiked up their prices. Some TLDs are still affordable so it's worth checking out. |
| Gandi | $11.00 | $38.38 | Gandi used to be great before it got acquired and renewal prices went through the roof. |
| Sav | $10.49 | $10.15 | Sav is known for its domain marketplace and low registration and renewal prices. Support service isn't very reliable though. |
| Cosmotown | $7.59 | $11.06 | Tempting discounted prices but lots of complaints about poor support service and website issues. |
| Above.com | $10.44 | $10.44 | Above.com is the cheapest Australian domain registrar I know of. It's mainly a domain marketplace and parking service. |
| OVHcloud | $11.79 | $14.69 | OVHcloud is one of the good European domain registrars with competitive prices. It's also good if you need cheap VPS hosting. |
| Hetzner | $15.00 | $15.00 | Hetzner is a German cloud provider and domain registrar with reasonable prices. You can get better deals on some TLDs at other places. |
| Netcup | €13.92 | €13.92 | Netcup is another solid German provider where you can purchase a domain name at a fair price. They have great deals on virtual servers as well. |
| Amazon Route 53 | $15.00 | $15.00 | Amazon is a lesser-known registrar, but you can buy a domain from AWS Route 53 (DNS service). Prices are within a reasonable range. |
Looking for free web hosting?
If you have a static website (HTML, CSS & JS), you can get free web hosting from GitHub Pages, Cloudflare Pages, or Kinsta. You can't use these to host PHP, MySQL, or anything that runs server-side, e.g. WordPress.
Looking for cheap web or WordPress hosting?
It's better to keep your domains and hosting at separate providers, which is what I do with most of my domains. But I do use cPanel hosting from both NameCheap and Spaceship for some of the domains I have with them. Their hosting service is pretty decent for what it costs.
A couple other cheap web hosts I've had a good experience with are Ethernet Servers and Shock Hosting. I'm using their cPanel shared hosting, but they also have affordable VPS servers (self-managed) if that's what you prefer. I've received better/more attentive support from these small hosts than many of the big hosts out there.
These all are suitable for small/low-traffic WordPress sites that don't require a lot of server-side processing.
Hey Reddit, I’m on the lookout for the best free domain deals.
I recently came across a deal offering a free .COM domain, but there’s a slight catch. You need to purchase hosting from the provider (which is pretty affordable).
Whether it’s from popular registrars offering first-year discounts, promotions tied to hosting packages, or any other hack you’ve come across, I’d love to hear your recommendations! 🙌
We're using Google Firebase, if that means anything. (does firebase offer that? I'll feel pretty dumb if they do lol)
Thank you in advance
Folks,
I'm faced with the task of getting a domain name for a hobby web project which is GPLv3.
I'm obviously not going to actually buy a new domain since its a hobby project, so I'm thinking of getting one for free. I understand the risks (like we don't truly own the name, the registrar can shut down any time, the registrar can even monetize our domain once they start getting popular, etc.)
But still, even considering all those risks, my research yielded that the below registrars provide domain names (or short 2nd level subdomains) for free. Now can someone experienced here say which one of these come with the least risk?
-
.tk, ga, gq, ml (freenom.com registrar).
-
.Eu.org
-
.cu.cc
-
.cu.vu
-
.biz.ly
-
.eu.mn
-
.com.co.in
I'm obviously not going to actually buy a new domain since its a hobby project
Why not? A .org is $10, .xyz is a dollar, .info is $3, .online is $5...
Today you can buy a .xyz for only 22cents. Domains are getting cheaper and cheaper. if you really want the best deal you can check out Domcomp
So, freenom's dead. Are there any alternatives?
