r/canon on Reddit: A Comparison Between the Canon R6 Mark II and Fuji X-T5
September 4, 2024 -

I know many people hesitate between these two cameras, or even between these two brands, for various reasons. I was in the same situation and eventually decided to own both, as neither fully satisfied me on its own. Instead of writing a long, tedious review, I’ll present a FAQ-style comparison after nearly two years of daily use.

  1. Is there a difference in low-light performance?

Yes, and depending on the model, the difference can be noticeable. The X-T5 has 40 megapixels, while the R6 has only 24. More megapixels mean smaller photosites, which typically results in more noise. My X100F, with fewer megapixels, has less noise than the X-T5. Against a 24 MP full-frame Canon, the X-T5 struggles, especially since it's APS-C vs. full-frame. If you use the X-H2S, the gap might be smaller. Additionally, I’ve noticed that the best noise reduction tools, like PureRaw or Adobe Denoise, work better with Canon files.

2) Is the autofocus that different between the two systems?

Absolutely. While it might not be as noticeable with static subjects, in many cases, the Fuji autofocus is unreliable. I wish it weren’t the case, but whenever I’m reviewing photos taken with the Fuji, I’m frustrated by how many are blurry without any clear reason. With the R6, this never happens. If I need consistent results, whether for work or one-time opportunities, the R6 is my go-to.

3) Are the colors better on one system?

In JPEG, definitely yes. Fuji colors are exceptional. In RAW, it’s closer, but I still prefer Fuji’s color rendition. If you’re picky about colors, I recommend using Capture One. I work with Lightroom, Capture One, and PhotoLab almost every day, and Capture One is clearly superior for color. That said, Canon colors are also fantastic—just that Fuji gives an extra 10% that makes them special.

4) Which is more enjoyable to use?

The answer is clear: the X-T5. There's something organic and hard to describe about using it. The Canon is also enjoyable—much more so than any Sony or Panasonic I’ve used—but Fuji offers a different, more immersive experience.

5) Is there a quality difference in video modes?

The R6 shoots without a crop in all modes and offers an APS-C mode, meaning your 24mm lens can also serve as a 35mm with no loss in quality—except at high ISOs, where noise size increases by 1.5x. While Canon’s noise is less pleasant than Fuji’s, it’s easier to denoise with tools like Neat Video. The X-T5 shoots in 6K, which is useful if you want to crop and deliver in 4K. F-Log2 is better than C-Log2, but the only good 4K mode on the X-T5 is the HQ mode, which comes with a crop. Add stabilization, and you get even more crop. Still, you can work with these limitations and achieve amazing results with both cameras.

6) What are the cons of each system that make me keep both?

Fuji:

  • Autofocus: It’s a genuine issue, and I’m tired of hearing otherwise. Thankfully, many YouTubers are discussing it, and I hope this pushes Fuji to address the problem. I have several nephews, and the miss rate with the X-T5 is higher than what I find acceptable.

  • Lack of good first-party zoom lenses: Fuji’s zoom lenses are often old, slow, and behind the competition. Thankfully, Sigma and Tamron offer alternatives.

If Fuji fixes the autofocus issue, I might consider selling my Canon system.

Canon:

  • The lenses: Canon’s lenses are big, expensive, and the selection is limited. A 35mm f/1.4 costs €2000, and even at that price, it’s not perfect according to reviews. The zoom lenses are excellent, but they’re priced out of reach for many users—€2600 for a 24-70mm, with no third-party options from Sigma or Tamron, which usually cost less than half with nearly identical quality. This is my main gripe with the Canon system. Also, the size is not ideal, especially for travel. But it's more of a Full Frame lens issue than a Canon one.

In contrast, with the X-T5, you get the best APS-C lenses on the market, plus many options from Sigma and Viltrox. With Canon, you're left with basic f/1.8 lenses, and that’s about it.

In the end, the limited lens options for Canon are why I keep the Fuji, and the unreliable autofocus of the X-T5 is why I still have the R6 Mark II.

If you have any relevant questions, feel free to ask, and I’ll add them to this post.

r/AskPhotography on Reddit: Fuji xt5 with expensive primes vs canon r6 mark ii with f4 zoom lens
November 7, 2022 -

For the same price as a canon full frame with an f4 L zoom lens (24-105 f4) I can get a Fuji xt5 with two expensive primes(18mm f1.4 and 56mm f1.2) both around $3600. Now is the benefit of going full frame worth it over getting expensive primes right away. I can always save up for expensive canon lenses however those are quite a lot more expensive. I feel like the Fuji with higher megapixels and sharper primes with produce sharper results. Or, is full frame worth it if I have to sacrifice with less expensive zoom lens.

Hello, I currently run a canon kit (EOS R, EF 24-70 f2.8 ii, and 70-200 f2.8 ii). It is a great camera kit and shoots great photos but I feel I am using it less due to the weight (especially the 70-200). I am interested in fuji with the manual top dials and smaller form factor. I mainly shoot landscapes or "run and gun" travel photos (which the lighter kit will benefit). I have been using zooms for a while but do want to get into primes as well. I was curious what people had experiences switching with a similar kit to mine. Thanks in advance!

April 1, 2024 -

I am not a professional photographer, I consider myself more of a hobbyist, although I have done some portrait work, I mainly take landscapes and portraits.

I previously had a Canon M50 and I really liked its size, weight and versatility but not its image quality. I bought a second-hand EOS R+RF24-105 f4 and an RF100-400 f/5.6-8. I love the image quality and colors in landscapes, but not so much in skin.

But I got to a point where the weight of all the equipment has caused me to not want to take photos.

So, TL;DR... I'm thinking about switching to Fujifilm because of its size, weight and versatility, any advice, lens recommendations (Fuji or 3rd party) for street, landscape and portrait has a hobby, or just any comments? :)

r/AskPhotography on Reddit: Canon R6, Sony A7 IV or Fujifilm X-T5 for large format printing?
March 25, 2023 -

Hello!

which one of these three cameras could work better for large format printings like 100x150cm / 40x60 inches with good IQ?

Canon R6 and Sony A7 IV are both full frame with 20mb (6000x4000) and 33mb (7000x4600) respectively, while the Fuji X-T5 has a 40mb APS-C sensor (7700x5100). Could the smaller Fuji offer similar results like the other two FF?

Obviously I know that the lens and the photographer's technique are very important, but regarding the camera alone, which one would you recommend me?

Many thanks :)

I’m not a professional yet but would like to get into more professional work eventually. I love environmental portraits, documentary style portraits, landscape, food and will probably do a couple events when I have the chance. So i’m looking for the overall best option. I know the xt5 has more mp and ibs but the r8 is a full frame and i’m not sure how much that make a difference. If the price is not the main issue, which one should I go for? Sorry I know i’m not really specific and it may be an annoying broad “which one is better for everything” type of question

r/fujifilm on Reddit: Fuji XT5/XT4/ or Canon R6ii?
February 27, 2023 -

Hey everyone! I'm having a hell of a time deciding what to snag for a back up camera body. I use a Canon R5 for the bulk of my work which is portrait/ wedding work and I adore it from a professional workhorse point of view. And for the longest time I backed that up with a Canon Mark Iv to be on the safe side. However now that I have broken into the mirrorless market I don't see myself going back so I finally sold off the Mark IV and now am facing this decision.

Obviously the Canon r6 Mark ii makes sense with me being mainly a canon boy, but that was until I snagged myself a Fuji X100v which has just blown my damn mind. I love the colors, the feel and the overall low profile compared the my chunky R5. So with this new love of Fuji brings the XT5 and the XT4 to the option table. The XT5 calls out to me as a photographer and as someone who loves the latest and greatest. However, I've started dipping my toes into hybrid coverage with video work on wedding days which the XT5 doesnt seem to be suited for so the XT4 looks promising but I could just use the R5 for video and XT5 for photo..

....I just don't know lol Sorry for this word dump but I'm hoping ya'll may have some input. Should I stick with Canon as a back up or should I mix it up with a Fuji XT5 or 4 to add some spice to the pot. Money isnt an issue, I've budgeted near $3000 so all options are obtainable in that regard. Thank you all in advance!

r/fujifilm on Reddit: Thinking about doing something crazy: R5 back to XT5
July 23, 2025 -

Just curious if anyone has made bold switches like this.

Context: I had a Fuji XT5 in the past and I absolutely loved it, but I had some frustrating autofocus issues using AF-C. I learned this was a broad issue with firmware, but ultimately wound up selling it to a friend and doubled down on my canon setup and I got the R5 on a killer refurb deal.

So… here’s the thing. I just miss the Fuji. I miss the analog dials, the form factor, and the color science. My canon is an absolutely beast, but over time shooting with it just feels sterile. I don’t know how to describe it, but the Fuji inspires me to shoot more, and I don’t even really use film sims. When I shot the Fuji, my R sat in a bag. Now, I’m considering a full move from FF canon body+glass over to Fuji APS-C and completely offloading my R5.

I’m just curious if… 1. The autofocus on the XT5 has seen improvements or updates to firmware, and 2. If anyone else has made a switch like this and regretted it. I know what to expect from FF to APS-C, so I’m not worried about that conversion. I shoot mostly landscapes and portraits. Mostly just curious what y’all think.

r/fujifilm on Reddit: One year later, a Fuji X-T5 story and its AF
November 24, 2024 -

One year ago, I opened a thread about the inconsistency in the results I was getting with my Fuji X-T5:
https://www.reddit.com/r/fujifilm/comments/170vpc7/im_so_sad_to_let_it_go_but_too_many_frustration/

A few months later, I shared a small comparison with my Canon R6:
https://www.reddit.com/r/canon/comments/1f8nira/a_comparison_between_the_canon_r6_mark_ii_and/

With all the recent discussions about the AF situation, I thought it was time for an update.

I’m a professional and hobbyist photographer who uses cameras almost daily. I own many different models from various brands, and yes, the latest generation of Fuji cameras still has issues.

My X-T5 has an unacceptably high rate of missed-focus shots—far too many to blame on user error or ignore. In comparison, my Fuji X100F is much more reliable in this area.

Of course, depending on the shooting conditions (e.g., ample light, static subjects, or uncluttered backgrounds), the issue might not be as noticeable. However, it’s still unacceptable for a camera at this price point.

I took the X-T5 to Venice a week ago because I didn’t want to bring my Canon R6 II, and more than half the shots turned out soft or out of focus. Why? I have no idea. The autofocus behavior is so unpredictable that you can’t trust whether a shot is in focus or not. The green box confirmation is unreliable. I tried both AFS and AFC modes, but the results were the same. The only shots that were perfectly sharp were the ones I captured using manual focus.

Once again, I don’t experience this issue with the X100F.

Needless to say, the Canon R6 II performs virtually flawlessly in the same situations.

I’ve also seen that some renowned professionals, like Kevin Mullins, use the X-T5 as their main camera without issues. Well, I watched his recent videos showcasing photos from his latest wedding shoot, and yes, those images were sharp. However, he displayed only around twenty photos, repeatedly.

For context, I usually take between 500 and 1,000 photos at an event—sometimes more for large weddings. Even if I managed to get 200 acceptable images with the X-T5, that’s only 20% of the total shoot. With the Canon R6 II, my success rate is closer to 80%.

So, we don’t really know how many photos these Fuji professionals (often ambassadors) take in total.

The only reason I keep the X-T5 is because I love the colors. I do believe Canon offers more pleasing skin tones, but Fuji emphasizes organic aesthetics. Additionally, the Fuji is smaller than the Canon, which is crucial for traveling.

I also hold a naïve hope that Fuji will fix this issue, even though it’s now clear they’re either unable or unwilling to. Perhaps they lack the engineering expertise, or maybe the budget for this area is too low.

One thing is certain: many people I know have left the brand and sold their gear for this exact reason, despite their emotional attachment to Fuji.

We’ve seen plenty of feedback on forums and YouTube from regular users (not influencers) doing the same. Most of them have lost trust in Fuji, which, like many Japanese companies, seems reluctant to acknowledge problems.

So, one year later, it’s still a sad story.

r/AskPhotography on Reddit: What to buy? Canon R7 vs Sony A6700 vs Fuji X-T5?
November 7, 2025 -

(1) Budget, country, and currency: Within 2000 euros, Netherlands, europe.

(2) What equipment, if any, you have now and why is it no longer meeting your needs? This is my first camera.

(3) What kinds of subjects do you intend to shoot? My current foci will be landscape, street, artistic style portraits, and urban birds/animals. Later I also want to get into Astro photography and wildlife.

(4) Is it primarily for photography, videography, or both? Photography for now, might get into video later.

I’m looking to buy my first hobby camera. I have some minimal prior experience with photography, and have tested the canon r7 for a few weeks. But I’m really confused and overwhelmed by the amount of information available online. I hope this is not a repeat of something that’s been asked a thousand times, I did a bit of searching but most posts missed some of my parameters.

I’m looking for a “better than entry level” APS-C. I dont mind throwing some cash if the features are worth the money.

  1. According to you, what will be the main differentiating factor for A6700 vs R7 vs XT5?

  2. I will travel with these + lenses, so compactness is a plus (but not a dealbreaker).

  3. Apparently FujiFilm has the best color science for beginners. Is that a big advantage even when put against these particular sony and canon models. (I’m not opposed to learning lightroom for great clicks but hope to keep it to a minimum). As a novice, I feel I would rely heavily on autofocus which the fuji seems to lack.

  4. Most importantly, while the trial run of R7 felt great (24-105mm f4-7.1 IS STM lens), I felt 3 issues. First, it didnt have enough dials (have to go into menu for ISO + which dial controls what changes with modes). 2nd it felt a little bulky. 3rd and this is the big one, it feels like canon has either entry level or pro lens options only. I would like something in between.

  5. Speaking of lens options, the lure of Sony is that it has a compact sturdy body, + I have heard it has great third party lens options. Can you recommend me some lenses that will fit my needs? With Sony my fear is I will have to edit every photo.

  6. How much would I have to spend on lenses for each brand? Does any one brand (including 3rd party lenses) have better lenses per dollar than the others?

TLDR: Each brand has pros and cons, cant decide what to weigh more.

Sony: Good autofocus, compact body, affordable 3rd party midrange lens options. Bad color science, dont want to edit every image.

Canon: Great images, good trial run. But a bit bulky, not enough dials, and good lenses cost a kidney.

Fujifilm: Best images (?), film simulation is great for beginners (?), dedicated dial for each setting. Bad autofocus (dont know how bad/how much impact it will have).

Also no idea about the lens market and options for each model.
