Apparently you can use free letsencrypt certs, but then you have to manually set up new certificates every 60-90 days to keep them valid. Hi all,
I tried the option of ZenSSL by trying to manually set up an SSL certificate and bypass GoDaddy's SSL expensive plans, but all methods (HTTP and DNS) didn't work. My client wants the https to show up, but I'm not sure if there's any other way (besides switching hosting providers).
Any ideas?

I would switch hosts. GoDaddy charges fees for things like SSL and Domain Privacy that many of their competitors offer for free. For better WP hosting, try Cloudways. Kinsta and WPengine have good offerings if you want something less hands on.

Hi there. My employer wants to make a basic website that advertises their holiday home for holiday rental (just pictures and info, no booking system will be needed but they want the SSL certificate). They just bought the domain name on GoDaddy (they have 2 other WordPress websites that are hosted/domain registered on GoDaddy with C-panel, none have SSL) so thought they could host another WP website on GoDaddy for free with C-Panel and then buy SSL certificate, either from GoDaddy or a third party...
But it seems it's cheaper to get a plan direct with WordPress as they include an SSL certificate, hosting, etc... current thinking is to buy a WP plan that includes SSL and host site on WP, then connect GoDaddy domain name to a the WP plan... or buy GoDaddy/third party SSL and host site on GoDaddy through their C-panel subscription... mutter mutter mutter... reckon I'm going in the right direction? Thanks

I have no experience with godaddy, they are a large host - but if they are providing cpanel and turning off cpanel's autossl to force you to buy a cert that is a non starter. You should not have to buy a cert (you can even get one at zerossl manually). So, in this case either go with wordpress OR any other cpanel host that does not turn off autossl which I expect to be 99% of them. If you go with a cpanel host look for the following backups offered (at least weekly) however once in a while take a manual backup some security system, like imunify360 A way to keep wordpress up to date (for cpanel this can be wp-toolkit or softaculous) If you are using it for mail, some outbound spam protection system like mailchannels.
