Is there anyway to backup an entire google account?
Sign in, then go to takeout.google.com, you can download everything (drive, docs, photos, contacts, etc) as a series of archives. Idk if the admin can disable that feature, they probably can. If so can you just use a USB and copy the files from drive, or email the things you want to save most to your personal email as attachments. More on reddit.com

Backup of personal Gmail accounts and search within the backup ?
If everything is gmail, then you can use IMAP and thunderbird in some combination. Synology is needed, but useful for 2ndary storage. I've done a lot of work for different companies, many of which use gmail for their mail services. I also run my own domain and mail server with dovecot/postfix. When I'm getting ready to leave a position or contract I will connect that companies mail to thunderbird via imap and let it sync the data. Then I go into my owned domain and create a same folder structure. Now you can use the copy email function and make a complete copy of the emails with their header data to your own account. This is completely searchable and easy to find things after the fact. I have my c:\users\USER\appdata folder backed up to the synology, so I have a 2nd copy of everything that is in thunderbird just in case. Another option someone I worked with used was to just make a generic gmail account and make imap copies there. Again, completely searchable. You could even make a filter in your current gmail account to send a copy to that account. If you never login to that other account except to check on status, you'll have a copy of every email you've ever received. More on reddit.com
