The Platforms & Devices team is offering a voluntary exit program that provides US-based Googlers working on this team the ability to voluntarily leave the company with a severance package. This comes after we brought two large organizations together last year. There’s tremendous momentum on this team and with so much important work ahead, we want everyone to be deeply committed to our mission and focused on building great products, with speed and efficiency. What the fuck does this very conflicting message mean? Doesn't that mean they need motivated and focused people? How would that happen if you layoff their teammates?

This is funny. The grass is always greener. I just got HC approved for Meta and waiting to team match.
And yes, definitely layoffs in January.

Google is heavily over staffed in the USA most of my friends say they have no work at all in office. They play some games eat nice lunch then some snacks and go home. I wish I can join such teams at google where it’s just full day timepass

r/csMajors on Reddit: What's going on at Google with so much hiring this year and silent layoffs at the same time?
November 13, 2025 -
I have been seeing the cs subs here and discord servers constantly flooded by interview and team match posts for Google L3 and L4 levels since April this year. But I have also been seeing posts about many orgs there offering voluntary exits and planning layoffs on Blind. Why are they hiring so much and firing at the same time?

Replace old (who are considered young anywhere else in the industry so ageism) who are expensive with share prices having climbed a lot with new cheap new grads (and internal promo means bottom of payband). I would give advice of: save as much as you can if you are fortunate enough to become a new grad at Google. Though this advice goes for basically any job overall. Save when times are good and especially so in this field as no one has a clue what can happen to you at any moment.

It’s hard to confidently say they’re hiring more if they’re interviewing more. There are a multitude of factors that can lead to more interviews, for example a change in hiring strategy. Similarly, seeing VEP and layoff rumours on Blind does not say much about layoffs. The ones we’ve been seeing on the news have been relatively small. When the market is rough people are bound to doom regardless of what is actually happening.
