r/PPC on Reddit: How/Where to submit an XML feed for Google Shopping?
October 22, 2018 -
Hi,
I've only used search ads so far, and I'm looking to get into Google Shopping. Our web developer has implemented tagging etc for products, and product pages show no errors when I run them through the Structured Data Testing Tool.
The only thing they've sent to me is an address for an XML feed and a link to the beginner 'upload a feed' help page (https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/188477?hl=en&ref_topic=3163841). There doesn't appear to *be* an option for using an XML feed on that page; only uploading static files in various ways.
What do?
Thanks

You'd submit it to your Merchant Center account. The XML file is on your webserver, so you'd probably use a 'Scheduled Fetch' to have it grab the XML file from the URL your developers provided you

Hi! Cofounder of Feedonomics here. AS PPC- said, you can submit your XML feed in Google Merchant Center as a Scheduled Fetch. Unfortunately with Scheduled Fetch, there is only the option for Google to fetch it once per 24 hours. That may be okay given the frequency of your price/inventory changes. However, with Black Friday and Cyber Monday coming up, it may not be enough. A better option would be to send a feed via API or S/FTP. That way you can send far more frequent updates. If that's not possible on your dev roadmap to do yourself, a feed platform like Feedonomics can help you automate this to be far more frequent. It's a common scenario where we pick up that XML file (which presumably is dynamically created), optimize the product data, and then feed it to Google Merchant Center with whatever frequency is desired.
