I've not heard anything bad regarding GPU-Z BIOS saves, and in fact that step is present in most guides. What info might you have that suggests otherwise? If it runs fine in your PC, the problem is almost certainly not with the card. Could be different driver versions causing the variation? Try a clean install? Any other cards in his rig having issues / rig showing any other oddities? Answer from VoraciousGorak on reddit.com

How to Backup GPU BIOS or UEFI from inside Windows
August 7, 2017 - GPU-Z uses a command line utility to perform this operation. For example, in the case of NVidia graphics cards it uses the command nvflash.exe -b bios.rom to pull the BIOS/UEFI from the graphics card. For other cards manufactured by other corporations, it uses other similar utilities.

r/EtherMining on Reddit: Saving bios with GPUz?
February 20, 2018 -

A friend of mine used gpuz to save bios(heard thats bad) of the RX580 . After unsuccessfully modding it, he returned that original bios (that was saved with gpuz) onto it. He then gave it to me to mod it (standard 1500+ strap copy). In rig, the modded card would drop to 0 after couple of minutes.

I tried the card myself, and I am able to normally run it without any hickups. Card is still running moded bios saved with gpuz, runs fine on my pc, and crashes in his rig to 0 after couple of mins

P.S. Problem is not related to overclock, risers, nor PSU. There is no memory errors on the card. OS is windows

r/GamingLaptops on Reddit: "BIOS Reading Not Supported" GPU Z error when trying to back up vBIOS. URGENT HELP needed due to bricked vbios!
March 23, 2022 -

I have an Asus Scar 15 with RTX 3080Ti, whose vbios got bricked while trying to flash GE76 175W vbios. Now I'm trying to get someone who owns the 3080ti variant to dump vBIOS, using GPU Z, but GPU Z says "BIOS reading not supported on this device". How do I solve this issue? And is there any alternate way of dumping vbios? Please help. I'm stuck at a mere 200mhz on the GPU, and the laptop is totally unusable.

r/nvidia on Reddit: Best way to verify GPU BIOS?
September 2, 2021 -

So I bought a used overpriced 1050 ti as a temporary GPU. It works fine. But I randomly checked the BIOS checksum and it did not match the one on the Techpowerup website even though they were the same version.

Can it be a modded BIOS?

Edit: I think I should have been more clear.

GPU: Zotac 1050 ti OC edition

Version: 86.07.22.00.53

SHA-1 from my GPU-Z extracted BIOS: 71F1BC041BDF65BE6B14ECDE17EA505D581D045A

SHA-1 from techpowerup: 17c63137a19024df1cfd34b2c3ab5d8c7bff99a1

Edit 2: I flashed the bios with nvflash. Everything is great as before. BUT... Now if I extract the bios, its 241KB and not 216KB. I'll go mad today
