I did and came up with dozens of cartridges that look to match the one in your picture. One example is Here. The exact part numbers may not match, however often the manufacturer will change a part number to reflect the year and month of manufacture.
You will have to do your own comparison shopping. Or take the cartridge to a plumbing supply store and they will match it up.

Theres likely just mineral buildup and itll take some finessing to come out. Dont be afraid of it breaks in the process. Take it out in pieces if need be. Next time dont turn off the water just use a flat screwdriver and turn the two stops on either side of the valve. More on reddit.com

I would be shocked if your cartridge failed in 2 years but not shocked if you got a booger in the valve [that you probably have cleared by disassembling it.

I've managed to deconstruct the shower faucet to the level shown in the photo, but I don't see how to get the old cartridge out. It's stuck in real good. There's no where to pry, slip jaw pliers don't get a good grip on the outer black plastic, and pulling on the knurled shaft looks like it will break the plastic and leave me stuck. Any advice?

Ahhh….. the old Tempress II cartridge. It should slide straight out. But the o-rings on either side can get gummed up.

Ask Lixil-Grohe technical support what size socket fits the cartridge. Most of theirs are 34mm and 36mm. Some can be fitted with a standard, deep socket. Some, like the Grotherm 3-valve, need thin wall. Also note that Lixil's Grohe division has been pretty generous about sending free parts out of warranty. It won't hurt to be polite and ask. Smetimes the valves leak due to lime build up. You might be able to clean the valve with vinegar and a nylon brush. Metric "plumber's sockets" or "shower valve sockets" are thin enough to fit and have those sizes.
