November 3, 2025 - "Hotel Reverie" is the third episode in the seventh series of the British science fiction anthology television series Black Mirror. Written by series creator and showrunner Charlie Brooker and directed by Haolu Wang, it premiered on Netflix on 10 April 2025, with the rest of series seven.

Hotel Reverie, in which modern film star, Brandy (Issa Rae) is hired to remake a Casablanca-esque classic in real time, lacks neither money nor ambition. Taking place largely in a black-and-white reconstruction of a 1940s Cairo hotel, our hero is placed into a virtual world based on the film’s script – complete with a digital recreation of the movie’s troubled star, Emma Corrin’s Dorothy.

Luckily for her, cash-strapped studio head Judith Keyworth (Harriet Walter) has agreed to use Redream software, which inserts modern stars into films of yesteryear for interactive remakes, in an effort to revitalize her floundering Keyworth Pictures. Brandy jumps at the chance to lead a new version of her favorite film, Hotel Reverie, which finds her playing the gender-swapped hero Alex Palmer.

“Hotel Reverie” is the third episode of Black Mirror’s seventh season. Very quickly, it seems to want to mimic some of the storytelling and themes from “San Junipero”, one of the best episodes of the series, but falls flat in doing so. Spoilers for Black Mirror season seven episode three below.

Hands down, one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking episodes they've ever done. It's like a tragic love letter to old Hollywood wrapped in everything that makes Black Mirror so haunting and brilliant.

In Black Mirror episode 3’s ending, Brandy Friday, the star of the Hotel Reverie reboot, finally learned how to open packages without misplacing the items inside them. Nah, I’m just kidding. That’s not what the story was about, though it would’ve been for the better if Brandy hadn’t been so clumsy.

April 13, 2025 - Rebecca Ozer plays Ayla, a crew member of the Hotel Reverie movie who fell in love with Dorothy. Outside of two shorts, Black Mirror is Ozer's first major on-screen credit.
