Hi everyone,

Shark Rocket owner here. How do I get rid of the dreaded musty smell in the foam filter?!

I've literally hosed the filter down and let it air dry for 2 days yet it still smells funky. Google says to not use soap and I don't want to damage the filter. Before I go out and by a new filter on Amazon, any tips?

I asked a few days ago, about cleaning the filter on the Shark DuoClean vacuum. I *LOVE* this vacuum. I hate to admit how many years I have had it and have (not) cleaned nor replaced the filter.

I finally worked up courage TODAY to dig the filter out to see how dirty it was (let's NOT talk about how dusty it was)...

I want to thank the person who told me where to find the model number of this vacuum. I had started, thinking I was going to just buy a new filter from Shark, but going to their website, I was terrified because there were countless different models that all called themselves "Duoclean" much to my surprise and amazement.

I took my vacuum apart a little while ago so I could see the filters that were in the vacuum. There are two filters... one a spongelike filter and the other is the same shape, but a lot thinner and not sponge.. more of a ... dense material of some sort.

I have rinsed out the spongelike filter pretty well. I shook the thin material-type filter that goes under this sponge-like filter. I didn't know if that material-type filter is washable or not, and didn't know if I dare use dish soap on the sponge filter, but I used only water on the sponge filter, rinsing it as well as I could get it. I just shook the material filter and then beat it against the sink. Both sponges are in recovery now! 😂

I then flipped the vacuum over and took a picture of the model number (QU203QRD). I then took that model number to the Shark website to find that Shark called this "XFF450". Knowing that, I then went to Amazon and found a TWO-PACK for the same price as one of each filter for the same price from Shark. I should have my two-pack from Amazon this Wednesday! YEAH!

Much to my surprise, Shark says I should have been replacing this filter every 3 months... or I should say "these filters" because it's really 2 filters that are used together.

MANY thanks to everyone for helping me and encouraging me with the filter. This sub is GREAT.

I've been using Sharks in my business for 6 years. You can buy an 8 pack (4 sets of 2) on Amazon. I just throw mine in the wash every week and don't dry and they come out fine. If you use bleach you'll turn the thick one brown but it doesn't effect usage. Value for dollar I put the Shark rocket zero edge against any more expensive vacuum out there.

Most people miss this one: · Cause 1 · Exhaust Filter · The exhaust filter traps particles as the air travels through the vacuum cleaner. If the filter is clogged, the vacuum cleaner will not have proper suction. If your vacuum filter is clogged, refer to your owner’s manual for cleaning instructions.
